Wanted to turn over the engine today: clutch switch not hooked up, so jumped solenoid...
Sparks ,big... got juice, but, OH SHIT !!!
Checked to see if engine could turn: Put in first gear: looked locked up...
tried to find second gear, had a hard time, engine still looked locked up, could not even find 3rd...

Shit, shit, god damn, !!! I even topped off my coolant today !

I shifted through the gears before & after case assembly , seemed fine at the time... But now... :cursing

I have to take everything apart again, if I still feel like it !!!

Either that or I will cut my losses and sell...

I have lost more than half a season, put in over 4K$, and hundreds of hours... All for what ?

Fred

That sucks freddy, but don't you have this urge to fire and run the bugger just to spite it :)

Even if you got a new one, well you still waisted half the season and you'll be out 10k+ ( just for the new one). And then your gonna want another 1-3k worth of parts.. ( pc commander, exhaust, tre, blah blah blah).

Anyway could be simple what damn said.

Can you crank it using the ignition rotor bolt?

Maybe taking a day away from her and coming back fresh and not frustrated will help...I hope it is something simple with the shift mechanism.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you

Dave

Boy Freddie, sounds familiar! Don't forget what you told me a few days ago when I was feeling screwed. I know how you feel.

Lets start trying to figure this out before you condemn anything.

Is there a possibility the clutch is dried out and not releasing like it should. Maybe there isn't oil on all the plates? How long did you run it? I think Dan might be on to something. Check the clearance on the shift LINKAGE and make sure you're not adjusted up or down too far to get the shifter to move. If it shifted before you started it, it oughta shift now!

Don't forget Fred, we won't let you quit. You're not that far from me. I might just have to come up there and straighten your ass out. hehe just kidding.
I'm sure it's just an oversight, you can count on a few after a complete tear down. That's one thing I learned from doing this too.
Oh yeah, I suggest taking it easy for the first couple trips, who knows what might fall off. I mean top speed runs, of course.
Keep us posted

Dave is there a way to turn it over without hitting the juice? maybe pulling the plugs and turning the motor over by hand to do the tests?:scratch

What position is the shifter arm in on the shaft?
I can roll the bike front and aft in neutral, shift linkage at 6 o clock.
When pulling in the clutch, even in first , bike will roll , but with a hell of a lot of resistance.

I will try to open clutch cover & remove clutch assy first, then I will see how it goes...

Will not work on it for a few days... Need to step back.

I am utterly dissapointed in the point that I was as meticulous as I can, and still have to think about taking the engine out & ripping it open again...

I know first things first... Clutch, and then go from there.

If after the clutch it does not turn freely, I really do not think, that I will take it out & apart again.

Tanks for your support guys, but this shit is exactly that; shit!

Before you go crazy try this..

After refreshing my oil and all (I pulled the old plugs, put some oil in the cylinder holes, etc) I turned the motor over with the plugs removed to coat the cylinder bores real good.

After installing the new plugs the motor just would not turn over... it would crank for about 1/2 second then act like it was locked up..

I put the bike on the swingarm stand to relieve the whole transmission system and it fired right up..

I guess even in neutral there was enough clutch drag to cause some problems.

It's working fine now.. try to get your rear wheel off the ground and see if it turns over easier..

FYI

Bobby,as far as I know the only way is to pull the plugs, remove the ignition rotor cover and turn the engine over w/a 19mm wrench(cw).I like utp216's suggestion,if no stand, try pulling the chain off the sprockets

wow man that sucks......... hope its just a fluke and u get it up and on the road asap!.... if so far missed 5 weeks of riding and its killing me any more...... i spend about 250 buks a week in gas to drive my suburban vs. the 30 buks id spend on my bike......... damn i miss my bike..... tell u what bring yoru bike over and we can have a match to get them both fixed ahah... if only it was that easy........

Update:
Couldn t stay away too long... You know how it is...

Started off by pulling off ignitor cover & turning with a 19mm socket:
Engine turned without a hitch smoothly in neutral (the only gear available besides first...)

Now why would the starter, not turn over the engine ???

Had a second starter in the basement, so plugged that one in:
put it on, did not wire it to the solenoid, but just took the wire to the positive of the battery...
Sounded, like something I wanted to hear for a long time...
Remember: there are no carbs, the wires are not plugged in etc...The engine will not start, but just wanted to be sure, that it turned over, before buttoning stuff up... Which it did...
You know the ¨Crankacrankacranka¨ sound ...lol...
It looks like that starter motor rotor was grounded...

The biggest problem is still there; the transmission is still jammed : the only gears that it will go in, is first and neutral:

So I took off the front sprocket nut, thinking maybe something was not in its place in the crankcase, since it looked like it was the output shaft getting stuck...

Tranny was still locked up...

drained out the new oil, took the clutch cover off, and took off the springs and the pressure plate, but it was still jammed, but at this point I thought it was the driven shaft...

Flattened out the lock washer, & unscrewed the drive shaft nut in the center, taking off some pressure somewhere, because, i could now shift through the gears with ease ...

At this point, I will need to see how I re-assembled it; last time I put it back together, I used the fiche, and the manual, to be sure of sequence of parts ... Looks like I screwed up big time... Can you say? ¨dumbass¨?...lol : Right Dave?

Oh well... got scared to hell that I would need to open up the engine again...

I am not sure yet, but the more I look into it, the less likely that would be the case...

Back on the saddle, after falling...

On a better note than yesterday: Anybody could tell me where my two yellow with green wires from my clutch switch go to ??? (around where on the harness should I look...)

I have looked for mating wires on the harness, without success...

The same for my rear brake light switch...

Thanx for your support guys, I need that yesterday...

Yesterday was not only a bad bike day, but all kinds off stuff is happening , not just the bike:
Some days a bump on the road , can seem like a hill...

Fred

Fred, welcome to the club:D .Glad to hear you're making headway.

We're all pullin' for ya and I still have them crossed

:cheers
