Brought back to life a 1997 750, Today for the 1st time in a few years it moved under its own power. Temp got to 194 before I shut it off. The fan gets the signal to come on from temp sensor? If I'm getting a reading on the gauge does that mean the sensor is working? Thanks for any input

194*f degrees is not bad at all, especially if you are idling under the sun. My fan comes on at 220*f, but mine is also a newer model.

220 is not uncommon for the fan.
what you are saying you see is normal. The question is how long did it take to get to 194?
Have you tried to ride it?

If your petcock fails its gravity fed to the carbs. If the floats dont stop it. You end up with continued flow to your cylinders. If the cylinders fill up, it seeps threw to your oil sump... so the next morning theres a pool of fuel under your bike and the oil sump will be full of fuel. And your out 40 bucks for new oil and a filter.....possibly more damage if left that way for awhile....

if your riding your bike with the oil sump full of fuel..... I mean think about it.... nvm... Yes .... yes it can cause the bike to overheat.. it can possibly cause much more damage than that.... and if you turn your bike off and disconnect your fuel line from the petcock to the carbs and it fuel continues to flow after the line drains the little bit of fuel it has in it... I mean you get a steady stream....then yes you need to fix or replace your petcock.

And get the carbs check out. Replace the oil and filter
