What is a R1 throttle mod and how do you do this?
Wait, so you made your own from scratch 100% and didn't buy any Yamaha parts at all? Do you have a parts list and some pictures along with some details for those of us that are considering doing this? Thanks for the inspiration, Art. The dealers over here wanted $62 for an R6 throttle tube, plus they needed to order it in, so it would be half a week's wait too!!! I went to the hardware store and bought a 32mm inner diameter, 42mm outer, Pvc joiner, then made one of those clip-on mods. According to my measurements after installment, the turn is now about 60 degrees. I cut 1/4" off the "open" cable housing as in the tutorial http://brgracing.com/throttleInstr.html, even though my cutter didn't fit properly. I also placed both nuts on the "close" cable, at the pulley end, onto the pulley side of the bracket(as in the tutorial) because the cable wasn't long enough. I also had to grind down part of the plastic inside the throttle tube housing to make room because it was binding, and wouldn't clamp closed. It's the part that the cable retainer screws into from the bottom, but there's still plenty of thread there for the screw. :cheers
Ok, that's what I thought. The first few times I was reading this thread I thought the tube that had to be purchased was the part that carried the pull throttle cable. The more I read it though the more it seemed like you cut the Suzuki part and then replace the plastic throttle grip tube apparatus so I wanted to make sure I had proper clarification. So, to get a shorter turn you can simply use the R1 tube w/o any other modifications. To get an even shorter turn you can use the R6 tube but to do so you you need to shorter then length of the pipe about 1/4" to make it work. I got all that right?Yeah, those pics are a bit confusing. The part they cut off is just off the end of the "open" cable housing, it's metal, to make room and so that the cable isn't on angle I guess. The only part you need to buy is the ('06)R6 or ('00-'04)R1 throttle tube, it's all one piece, and it apparently comes with a grip already on it. You just replace the stock tube with a Yamaha one.
