I'm having a big problem starting my '97 SRAD 600. Everytime I press the start switch, all the bike does is click (the clicking sound is comming from the rear tail section).
When it first started doing this I got new spark plugs, battery and fuel filter, installed them and the bike cranked on the 2nd try. -ok, that was great {problem solved}

--not quite.

The next day I went to start the bike, it did the same damn thing! WTF??? It's left me completely stumped!

Any suggestions?
-Thanks,
Shaun

The only thing that makes sense to me is that you have a power drain coming from somewhere that is running your battery down. Try throwing a charger on the battery, and see if it will start then. Make sure to use a low amp setting, 2 amps or lower.
If it starts, you probably need to start checking with a volt meter if you have a wire that is shorted, or a bad switch of some sort. Also, do you lock your handle bars when you park the bike? If so, make sure that you are not turing the key past the lock position and to the parking light position, this will light your tail lamp and run your battery dead.

The relay for starter might be going bad also if it still does it with the charger on there I would check that relay for the starter.

To me it sounds like you having a problem with your relay for the starter, bad connection on battery, relay or the starter, bad ground connection. It can also be that your starter needs an overhaul. The "clicking" is your starter relay going on and off. Locate the relay, make a shortcut over connection for the power cable. If it starts now its for sure that it is your relay making your problems. PS: be sure your gixxer is in NEUTRAL when trying this.

Same exact thing happened to me at the begining of the season. It ended up being a corroded battery connection. I cleaned it off and haven't had a problem since.

well, here's an update!
I tryed bypassing the relay switch- that turned over the motor when i shorted the two wires.

OK, progress...

it wasn't getting any fuel, so i put the wires back on the relay and tryed cranking up the motor. HEY! it worked...

Now i suppose that means that my relay is bad? hmmm.... still kind of in guessing mode here.
any suggestions?

I was thinking it's probably the relay as well. First I would wait till the bike wouldnt' start agian, then check the battery voltage, if it's got 12 volts, then it's probaly not a charching or drainage problem of some sort.

I'm leaning towards the relay.. Relays are just switches that get stuck sometimes. The can be overcome by a higer voltage than the usually need or maybe tapping on them with a wrench.

Does anyone think that my relay would have anything to do with how much fuel is getting to my carbs? I dont think so but i just started getting this other problem now...

It feels like my bike is starving for fuel. I'm having a problem not only with the idle (where it's cutting off), but also when I put it in gear and drive off. It's hesitating all the way up the tach and sounds like a 2 cylinder

. I dont have a fuel filter from suzuki but i do have a similar sized filter on the bike. It's got a little debris in it but doesn't seem like it's enough to hinder the fuel delivery to the extent of the hesitation.

suggestions?
-it never ends!!

the way you are explaining your fuel problem makes me think that it may be your rectifier not sending enought voltage to the fuel pump or maybe not sending enought volatage to the cdi. I would check your charging system all the way throught and check and see f that maybe be it

Hi shaun.
I think your problems with starting is your relay, but anyway this has nothing to do with your bike starving for fuel. Bring the bike to a workshop where they can cleen it up and do a proper adjustment of your carb.... But first of all, try changing your spark plugs, some of them might be dead.
