Only advice I can give you is to sign up for the MSF course, and find some new friends that are intersted in bikes and riding.

or give them the 'calculated risk' arguement - which goes along the lines of getting trained, riding defensively, and buying a smaller bike to learn on to reduce the personal risks....

totally agree with Fraggle there. take the MSF course and you will come out being top of the road. Well almost since they teach you the safety stuff on two wheels

Just get into motorcycling the right way. Take the MSF course and start on a bike like an SV650 or EX500. Show those friends of yours that its not about the "poser" factor, and that riding responsibly will reduce the risks. Wear your gear, and show them that riding is a passion, not an appearance. Don't forget though, that bikes ARE dangerous. Learn all you can and ride safe.

^^^^^^^ What he said.

Bikes really ARE that dangerous... but mostly only to those who don't belive it. Always remember that they're dangerous and do what you can to avoid/lessen the dangers and they become a LOT safer.

Just always remember... the cagers out there? They DO see you... but they wanna GET you! It's not about defensive driving... it's about paranoid driving!

Just to clarify, we're not saying, "accept the risk", we're saying, "prepare for it so you can avoid it."

How long have you been driving on the roads? Automobile experience helps and it's far more forgiving to little mistakes in judgement.

Take the MSF course.
Take riding in baby steps.
Do NOT get over confident!!! It will bit you in the ass.
Learn from your mistakes........ and you will have them!
Always watch out for anything/everything.

Do these and within time all death warrent comments will go away. They might not disappear, but they will not be heard everyday.

Oops! I did leave out the best thing! HAVE FUN!! (like that is hard on a Gixxer!!!)

when people start saying shit like your a temporary resident for riding it does piss you you off because there opion is founded on misguided shit.
riding is as dangerous as you make it. ride safe (always wear the right gear and don't fool around when there is traffic about) remmeber you are invisible to cagers (who will occasionally try and get you), and you'll be safe.
