The federal highway bill approved by Congress in late July included funding for the first major study of motorcycle crash data since the late 1970s.

"We're looking forward to real research that surveys many factors of motorcycling crashes and comes up with ways that we can reduce this number," Lindsay said.

I say let them go helmetless, population control. Let the dumb bastards die.
The dumbass bitch who lobbied Fla. senators for the repeal had her husband die riding a motorcycle without a helmet on less than a year later. Guess they all get what they deserve.

No shit?? I hadn't heard that. Maybe she was trying to "off" his ass.

I was out a week ago driving for work, and saw a guy who's hardley's plate read "dwn bkr". He also had a big ass patch on the back of his jacket stating something about the downed bikers associaton. The most shocking thing: this fucktard had no helmet! You'd think AT LEAST he, who is involved with a bunch of people who have been injured/died riding, would have the sense to wear a helmet. If that guy wasn't brighrt enough to wear one, then I say let stupid people kill themselves.

I always wear and believe in helmets. That being said, people have the right to do whatever they want. What does freedom mean when the government seeks to criminalize personal choice?

Might as well ban booze smoking etc - it's all known to be bad.

Our personal liberty is more important than statistics regardless what they may show. Not one person that died, didn't know about helmets. They chose not wear one. If we outlaw motorcycle riding every one killed on one would be alive. Where do you draw the line? Who should draw it ? I am worried at how easily we give up our freedoms.

I have no position on helmet laws (my biggest beef is the lack of acceptance of lane-splitting around here), but I don't leave my driveway without at least a helmet (and if it's more than a quick test drive around the block I wear every piece of gear I own). Come to think of it, I feel weird riding my bicycle without a helmet.

Only eye protection is required here in Colorado, but I have to shake my head every time I see bikers with nothing more than sunglasses.

As for where the line should be drawn and by whom, ideally it is drawn by We the People, wherever We choose (although this is necessarily a compromise). What too many people fail to realize is that in a democracy, government is the responsibility of every citizen. I've heard that politicians often complain that they don't hear from enough of their constituents. If you have an opinion, make sure your elected officials hear it!
