and mounting the thing....i know i paid like almost $200 to get a 21inch Palamino trout i cought mounted about 9 years ago.....i cant imagine paying for that fucker

Yah I noticed a lot of guys don't like going deep in the ocean at night. Those guys just checked all the boxes for heavy gear sturgeon fishing and reeled it in. Pretty silly business. Sick puppies.

They are endanger spicies, catch and release.
Thats why the fish is still in the water. I believe it is illegal to remove it from the water for longer than it takes to release it.

 

Ya the pallid and white sturgeon is on the endangered species list. I'm sure they don't want to kill that fish, fines and possible jail time will be HUGE.

I dont know about there, but in Idaho it is catch and release only. Cant even take them out of the water...

 

That might be close to a world record for lake stergeon. I grew up in Oregon and seen stergeon that looked bigger than that at the bottom of the Bonneville dam during spawning season. They live to be over 300 years old and don't even start spawning until they are 75 years old. It used to be you could only keep them if they were over 3' but under 7'. I had a friend catch one from the bank. It took him over an hour to land it and it was 7.5' long so he couldn't keep it. Oregon don't kid around with wildlife laws so you don't take chances there! I haven't been back home in so long who knows what the laws are now.

I will have to ask around and see if I can get some stats on it. I am sure that I know somebody who knows the guy who caught it. Small town. People are quick to talk about it being 20 feet long and a world record and that when something like this happens. I will see what I can find out.

 

That is freaky. It's a HUGE fish...it looks just like a small fish but HUMONGOUS! WTF did they catch it with an elephant gun???!!

It doesn't look anywhere near 20 feet long though, more like 14 feet.

Allright, so I think that the story was a hoax. I found this on the Michigan-Sportsman.com board about this fish.

"This Sturgeon was caught on the Fraser River, BC, just above the Mission Bridge. It weighed out at over 1,000lbs and measured out at 11'1". It was 56" around the girth and took over 6 and a half hours and 4 dozen Beers for the 4 guys taking turns reeling."

I guess wherever it was caught it is a fucking lunker. Cool either way.
