I just did my first ever spark plug change, and holy f* was that airbox ridiculously hard to get out and back in again!!!!

Does anyone have any tips as to the easiest way to get it out and in again?

I followed the service manual, undid everything. The issue was the intake vents in the front, couldn't get t to come out easily, and going back together was even worse.

No offense, but if you have trouble removing an airbox, maybe you shouldn't be working on your new bike until you get some more mechanical knowledge?

Lol.......

You silly guys there are no clamps! They are secured with 6 hex bolts from the top ;)
From what I could see it was the throttle cable linkageon the left getting in the way of it sliding in easily. The big intake boot covers in the front had to be stuffed in pretty hard to get it to finally line up and seat properly. It felt wrong but no matter how I tried to install it back in or take it out it required some force.

ill admit the first time i removed the airbox i found it a PITA to get to all the clamps till i found a nice long allen wrench. taking it out putting it in is no prob when the clamps are loose

Where are the clamps that you guys speak of? In the service manual it was just said to take off top airbox cover, intake funnels then disconnect hoses/sensor. No clamps mentioned, I'll read it again to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Then I lay corrected and for a rebuttal I will say find a little M-A-N to help with the job, j/k for got that gen was set-up different.

IIRC I was working on a honda 600rr that the VS was set up similarly.

Yes! Hopefully someone will chime in here that has done it with some tips, not that I'll have to go back in there any time soon though. I still felt the force needed was a bit excessive and maybe I was attacking it from the wrong angle. But who knows. Seems like the clamp system was a bit easier.

Actually, oil on the boots sounds like a great idea. I'll try that next time.

had to remove it to install my quick shifter. what a bitch. Almost lost a finger too! i seemed to have lost the gas tank prop, so i rigged it with a tool that happened to slide out as soon as i put my finger between the tank and frame. thank goodness for those little rubber blocks between the tank and frame or im certain id be missing a finger right now. went down to the bone haha
