that is just an up front charge, so your not surprised by the cost. older bikes required checking the valves, hense the high cost. the last three bikes i bought did not need the valves checked, so the service was only like 85.00.
if the dealer insists that they checked the valves call b.s. well, that is unless you bought a ducati

Tighten every bolt on the bike you will find some lose ones, adjust cables, change oil and filter, clean and tighten chain, check all the hose clamps, top of all fluids. They should remove both side panels on the bike. I do all my own service and when I did the 500 mile I found quite a few lose fastners and two lose hose clamps. It's not rocket science you can do it yourself.

Yeah I plan on doing my own, but my dealer (the owner) gave me some B/S. He said if there was some warranty issues down the road it could be a problem because I did not let them do the first service. But then the sales guy (a friend) said just keep the receipt for the first oil change and date it and there will be no problem. So I was like screw it i'll just do it myself and save the money to buy a small mod or two for the bike.

I did my own. Recently went to the Service Mgr. @ local shop (where bike
was bought) and was told warranty was already voided by doing my own first
service. Was inquiring into extended warranty. Then was told that if the
bike came in with a Suzuki oil filter and there were no signs of abuse
warranty would be honored. It's really bad business for these dealers to
be voiding warranties because they make more $$ doing non warranty work.
This dealer sells Honda & Kwaks also so I'm sure that the same practice
is used with regard to warranties. My reason for the inquiry was I was
considering an extended warranty I can get at a good discount from another
dealer in FL. Wish these shops worked like car dealers. Spoke with a
reputable bike mechanic who upon hearing my riding habits said the warranty
would be a waste of money that I wouldn't break the bike. I'm just thinking
that for a few hundred bucks I will have a little more peace of mind on my
$10k toy. Anyone with advice?

I would try and find another dealership. I've always done my own 'First service' and have never been denied warranty work on Suzukis, Hondas and Yamahas I've owned. Is your bike bone stock? I would guess this dealership will void your warranty if you put a slip-on on your bike.

Not stating what they do, stating what they are suppose to do, also I only use Suzuki oil filters and factory recomended plugs. My bike is out of warrenty now anyway but if it ever had to go back I would only have to put the stock air filter and pipe back on it.

It's really not bad business to threaten you like that. If that dealership got every new bike owner to pay for a $150 oil change (any dealership that threatens customers like that is not going to do any more than an oil change) and never got another warranty job as long as they were around, they would be happy as pigs in shit. Think about it, by screwing you, they make over $100 on each service and can do a few an hour. That's $300 an hour profit. Who cares if they don't get any warranty business. Besides, Suzuki isn't that generous with warranty labor rates and they are harder to snow than the average customer. I'll bet if you came back to this same dealership 3 months from now with a warranty issue they would think to themselves ''Should we get $1000 from Suzuki to do this job under warranty or should we tell the customer it's not covered and try for $2000?''

Run out the door and find a new dealership. Not all of them are bad.

I have a Yosh. CF TRS bolt on. The other things I've done are aestic stuff
ie. flushmounts, removing rear fender/signals, hugger. The dealer did say
they don't deny warranty work because of a "bolt on". However I've heard
stories of warranty work being denied because the bolt on wasn't bought &
installed by that dealer. Unfortunately the next closest Zuk dealer is a
couple of hours away & I have no one I can consult as to how they do business.
I did get a good referral of one about 3.5 hours away.

the warranty covers "a new suzuki motorcycle, or any part or parts thereof". Mod away, as long as your mod did not effect the failure your covered. There are anti lemon laws that confirm it.

As far as the first service, do it yourself. The bolts have markings on them which tell you if they have come loose. My dealer did not check the bolts, they just looked over all the markings.

Do a search on the forum for things dealers have done with customer bikes, eg flipping them or having 16 year old do the work. That should convince you to do your own work
