A lot of companies that provide aftermarket support and parts for the oil cooled bikes have recently gone out of business. The purpose of this thread is to provide a resource for those looking replacement parts or services to bridge the gap. I'll update this post to reflect current knowledge/information. Limiting to single source, rare, or discontinued issues.
Machining Services
Cylinder Blocks: APE is no longer providing machining services for cylinder blocks or refurbishing aftermarket big blocks. MTC Engineering is a competent shop that will bore your block. Also, they can re-sleeve and machine aftermarket big blocks with their sleeve offerings: MTC Engineering – Official Website . I have also used Millennium Technologies to bore my 1216 whom is well respected in the industry. They charged me $394 to do my block and that was with return shipping. Pretty sure MTC is cheaper though. Millennium Technologies | Nikasil Cylinder Plating
In case this info gets lost in the future, this is what APE used to use for their sleeves. MTC sleeve sizes are different but can work. I have some work being done at MTC and will update when I have more info. I'm pretty sure LA Sleeve is where APE sources their sleeves from. They can make sleeves to any dimension you want if you're looking for sleeves. L.A.SLEEVE
Cylinder Head Porting: If you have any interest in getting port work done in the future, you better get your butt into gear and get it ordered. Oil cooled heads are hand ported, not CNC machined. Those who knew how to do it well back in the day were few, and even fewer still do it today. The only resources I'm aware of that did it then and do it now are Cooper Performance (contact info is on his Facebook page) and Laser Mike: http://www.lazerporting.com/services/ . Cooper Performance has done both of my heads (30/26, 31/28 epoxy head) and I highly recommend him. He charged me $1000 for port work for the 30/26 head and $1300 for port work for the 31/28 epoxy head. Keep in mind, both of these guys are getting old and I'm sure they're contemplating retirement.
Crankshafts: APE still does crank service http://gsxrzone.com/cranks.html . Marine is another respected option Marine Crankshaft, Inc.
Case Machining: If you're building up an engine with an aftermarket big block, the upper engine case needs to be machined the accept the larger sleeves. APE no longer provides this service. MTC offers case machining. Contrary to their website, they do not remove studs so that's going to be on you: Custom Manufacturing – MTC Engineering
Hard Weld Rockers: Web Camshafts is the only resource I'm aware of that does hard weld rockers. Keep in mind, if you are running cams above .380" lift, you need EXTENDED PAD hard weld rockers due to the reduced base circle of the more aggressive grind webcamshafts.com
Carburetor Parts
If you need to rebuild your factory carbs, MotoLab is a great resource, particularly if you are looking for new floats which are long ago discontinued: MotoLab
Engine Componentry
Aftermarket Big Blocks: Carolina Cycle still has new inventory! Kim can be hard to get a hold of and it can be hard to get an order placed. You need to contact him by phone. Make sure you know what you want ahead of time (block without liners, with liners, size of motor, etc.). Have your credit card in hand when you call. 1-5pm EST (704) 279-4478. Please note these are the old style Orient Express style blocks with course fins.
An alternative is a CNC machined billet block. Warp Speed Racing makes them: http://www.warpspeedracing.co.uk/?page_id=19
Cam Chains: If you're building an 1100, OEM cam chains have been discontinued. APE discontinued the heavy duty cam chains some time ago. The only place I'm aware of on planet earth that has remaining APE inventory is here BF05MUX122 HD C/CHAIN 122 LINK GSX-R 1100 1986-1992 .
Alternatively, DID also made a heavy duty endless time cam chain part number 219FTH-122LE. Apparently, the "H" designates heavy duty in the part number. Grumpy 1260 on eBay sells them in addition to others.
If you're looking for a heavy duty cam chain for your 750, APE has them here http://gsxrzone.com/sprockets.html
Intake Boots: One of the hard to find required components if you're building up a strong 1100 are intake boots. Factory 1100 boots (USA) are too small if you intend to run 40mm Mikuni RS's. You need units off of a 90-92 750. OEM have been long discontinued. That said, there is one place that has limited inventory. These are the boots for a 1989 RK750 and are the biggest size ever made for an oil cooled. These are factory new Suzuki units and are pure gold. When these are gone, you're stuck with eBay which took me almost 2 years to find good used ones YOSHIMURA : Insulator rubber 4-cylinder set [1310S-07D02] Buy NOW - only 2 sets left!!! Alternatively, you can have weld on spigots added to your cylinder head but this is a very costly alternative to boots.
Heavy Duty Case/Head Studs (1100): APE is the only resource for these that I'm aware of. Single source so when these are discontinued who knows? http://gsxrzone.com/studs.html
Heavy Duty Shift Shaft: Relevant if you're building an 1100 drag bike. APE is the only source http://gsxrzone.com/shiftshafts.html
Transmissions: APE http://aperaceparts.com/transmissions.html, R&D Transmissions http://www.rd-motorsports.com, and Robinson Industries Robinson Industries Motorcycle Transmissions still offer undercut service. R&D and Robinson are the only resources for billet gears that I'm aware of (required if you're building up a strong 1100 for drag racing). If you need undercutting for a gen 2 750, keep in mind the OEM gears have been all but discontinued. If your dogs/gears are rounded out, I'm pretty sure R&D can weld them and re-machine but don't know for certain.
Top End Oilers: Required for 1100 aftermarket big block builds where machining the upper case resulted in breaking into the oil galley (see pic below). Long ago discontinued by APE and other options back in they day. Grumpy 1260 on eBay offers one. Have no idea about quality or fitment: Grumpy 1260 Top End Oiler
Gaskets: To my knowledge, some 1100 OEM gaskets have been discontinued. Cometic is a good option, only option for custom stuff E.G. head gaskets for 1/4" cylinder head dowel pins, etc. Great to work with in my experience: Cometic Gasket - Sealed Under Extreme Pressure
Slipper Clutch: Yoyodyne is the only option I'm aware of for a slipper clutch for an oil cooled (1100 only). They have 1 left. Will they make more when it sells out? Who knows: GSXR1100 1989-1992 with springs set
Case Covers: NRC still makes them but you need to buy direct now NRC Engine Covers | Niagara Race Crafters Inc: 5 Star Kawasaki dealer | NIAGARA RACE CRAFTERS INC.
Quick Access Clutch Cover: Nice to have if you're running a lockup clutch. Only source I'm aware of is Warp Speed Racing which is where I got mine. $450 I believe and 4 month lead-time: http://www.warpspeedracing.co.uk
Lockup Clutch: MTC offers a multi-stage lockup that's much better/tunable than the single stage made back in the day Multistage Lock Up Clutch – MTC Engineering . Explanation of MTC's various clutch offerings: Clutch Differences – MTC Engineering
Bodywork
New Airtech website: Airtech Moto by Gustafsson
Fiberman Bodywork: Fiberman Bodywork
DME bodywork has some great options if you are building a drag bike and are looking for stuff. Bodywork comes black: DME bodywork
Chassis/Suspension
Rearsets: Woodcraft ZX9R rear sets are a direct bolt-on for gen 2 bikes (750 & 1100). You need to use the Kawasaki rear master cylinder. Changes the peg location slightly but not much. Run them on both of my bikes. 05-0110B 1998-02 Kawasaki ZX6, 1999-03 ZX9, 2005-08 ZZR600 Complete Rearset . ACC billet offers an adjustable location set: GSXR 750 Slingshot Rearsets Suzuki, made in South Africa - Accbillet
Steering Stabilizer: Shindy makes a rebuildable damper that's been proven to work on gen 2 bikes. You need to buy the XXL version or it will bottom out before you hit the steering stops. The Shindy universal fork clamp/mount doesn't work though. The only fork clamp I've found to work is the OEM one as it moves to damper further out by 3/8" or so.
SRS link: Long discontinued by Fox. ACC Billet offers an aftermarket version: GSXR Slingshot suspension linkage-SRS type - Accbillet
Brembo Caliper Conversion bracket: Can't vouch for it but an option to consider ACTIVE : Caliper Support (GALE SPEED / Brembo 40mm Pitch & Large Rotor Diameter Compatible) [1470004S] : FIT MODEL INFORMATION
Extended swingarms: DME will make you an extended swing arm for your gen 2 bike. This will convert you over to a gen 1 or gen 2 Hayabusa rear wheel setup (they do not offer an option to keep your oil cooled rear wheel). The chain line is different between the Hayabusa and the GSXR. The Gen 2 Hayabusa is about 5/8 further outboard. This can be corrected with a custom carrier bolt on. I had mine made at Rebel Gears whom were awesome to work with. When I get my setup sorted I'll post some more info. Feel free to PM me in the mean time.
