Hi,
All,could not find any help for this bike,i know its not a gsxr, but its a 2007 k7 gsr 600 k7, when i bought it a month ago, could not try it out due to still recovering from accident on previous bike, guy followed me home as i could drive car,and next day battery was flat, new battery in ,and tried it out a week later, died out on me,battery faulty ?,was only reading 10 volts, but then noticed it was not charging, well i noticed its had another reg/rect,fitted,wired straight in to harness, now here is the problem, bought a mosfet unit,3 white wires,1 black and one red,but on main harnes its 4 black and one red, found one was an earth, and red is power, but i take it other three black are to generator, and does it matter what blacks are connected ? silly question, but as they are all black.
Can someone help out as its great weather and i cant go out on bike.
Dougie young i Glasgow scotland.

any way you can find a serice manual for the specific model then test the charging system? battery wants to read 12.5 thereabouts not running, and running it was to read a good 14 volts..

the wires off the stator are generally 3 phase for suzuki and it doesn't matter which wires you test or connect to the input stator wires on the regulator, the output should read the same for all 3 wires as well when testing.. when you get it running test them one by one check the output, should be around 50 volts at around 5000 rpm or so, but if you get the 14.5 or so volts at the battery at idle you should be good to go, maybe rove it make sure it doesn't spike ..

the lights should not dim when revving high, if you get into trouble out on the road you can unplug the lights and push start it, only takes a tiny bit to run the bike so an hours charge should go along ways few hunnerd miles with lights unplugged front to rear, baby it low rpms till you get back..

"i noticed its had another reg/rect,fitted,wired straight in to harness"
That doesn't sound so good. AFAIK the OEM R/R had seven leads, three to the stator and two ground plus two positive that connect to the wiring harness. It ought to be OK if whoever installed it knew what he was doing. But if there's going to be half the connections to the harness, they need to be sized for twice the current. I think the ground lead in the harness is B/W while the three leads to the stator are B.

The three leads to the stator are interchangeable, but only with each other, not with the ground. It ought to easy to distinguish them. Stators fail all too often. Look for darkened areas on the coils as an indication of shorting/overheating. Check for the same resistance in each coil and for no continuity to ground. Another issue is failure of the connector between the stator and the R/R. Look for evidence of overheating. If can get bad enough to melt the plastic connector.

the direct to battery mod is a good one// I wired my 99 SRAD 750 like this far more stable, dunno about the wire in the harness I guess it just stays I capped it off, an inline fuse as well..

roadstercycles sells this upgrade, it works, electric appears to be more stable, no flickering smoother electrical, mostly due to the mosfet, the battery wire is too narrow gauge is the idea, and it simply loops around int he loom makes its way to the battery, forget exactly how its works or the logic I dunnit 5-6 years ago but it seems to work just fine, its all on his website, dunno about newer bike just the SRADs

Thanks for help guys, its a mosfet, reg/rect i wired up,wires from unit were into crap plastic connectors so hard wired them also soldered as well and then shrink wrapped with hot air gun, they were to short anyway and did not want them at front of engine, used part of a wiring harness i had and extended wires to main frame, connected wires up earth/then red power then the three left for generator ,started up and guess what its charging, battery was down a bit 12.3,but bringing revs up it was at 14.5 and few minutes later 13.4,thanks for help, just need to go and enjoy it.
Thanks,Dougie young.
