Hey all, I originally had a 04 GSXR 600 a few years back and loved it, I then sold it after I got hit by a woman without insurance and now I have been getting the GSXR itch again and been looking for another.

I was wondering how the 06 compares to 04 generation. I like the look of em both and kinda am biased towards the 04 since I have had one before but figured I would ask.

Mainly concerned with the reliability and the handling of the two. My 04 handled pretty darn good and was pretty reliable the only problem was the STVA.

K6/7 600/750 have rectifier issues unless relocated, the K5/6 1000 has a frame recall, the K8/9 600/750 have a rectifier recall and all 600/750 from 2004 to 2013 have a master cylinder recall, the 1000 from 2005-2013 have a master cylinder recall and the 2011-2014 750 and 2009-2014 1000 have a chain adjuster block recall. So as you can see, most have something.

The K4/K5 600/750 also had issues with the steering necks bending in even light crashes.

Yea I have been reading a lot of issues with the rectifier issues frying. Now does the relocation result in a 100% fix or is it still hit or miss? That is a scary issue to face especially if they boil over the battery or blow and catch fire..

Also are the bad stator cases a result of the bad rectifier?

I have not heard of any rectifier failures after relocation, so it would appear that yes, relocation fixes the issue. I have heard of replaced rectifiers going on bikes that did not relocate.

Stators going out are much less common than rectifiers.

i used to ride a k5 600 back in 2005 and then an k7 750 from 2008-2010. i think the k7 was just a lot more friendlier bike than the k5 is. granted the k5 is a great bike, but to me the k7 just seemed easier to whip around turns. and it being a 750, i swear there was more usable torque. 600 are great, imo balanced good power and easy to make what you want it to do. in terms of problems, just the rectifier. its easy to relocate and simple enough to do yourself. i upgraded and relocated mine with a kit you can find info about on the forum. other wise k7/k6 is my suggestion.
