I have a Gixxer K5 600 bought 4/05. It now has 3,100 miles on it. I followed the owner's manual engine -break in procedure. Around 650 miles I had my 600 mile service done at Long Beach Motorsports. The Bike ran great for about 1000 miles until I noticed a popping sound coming from the lower left side of the crankcase. I would only hear the sound when starting out in first gear only. Or if coming to a rolling stop I'd hear the popping sound once a load was put on the bike. It would make only two or three low tone distinct pops. This sound only happens at low speeds in first gear. More noticably on hills. Also, when shifting from first to second gear there is a noticable clunk. It will not shift smoothly into second gear or out from second to first. Every other gear is smooth going up and down except for shifting from first to second. Of course, both conditions worsened and the bike wasn't performing as well.
So, I took the bike back to Long Beach Motorsports to have it checked out (They're a Suzuki dealer). They told me they were backlogged for about two weeks with the attitude that I should feel lucky that they will even consider looking at it. Ended up taking it back to the place I bought it from in L.A. To make a long story even longer, the shop finally diagnosed the bike and said that the chain was adjusted so tight that it bent the front sprocked. I forget the exact name of the sprocket, but I'm pretty sure that was what the service manager was talking about. He told me that the chain was tightened so much that it bent the front sprocket. The slack in the chain was about two inches, which is .4" more than the owner's manual says should be. It seems that would make sense that the chain now has too much slack because it was adjusted so tight that the sprocket bent back. Who knows. That's why I'm writing this. I was wondering what other components of the driveline may be damaged and needed to be replaced. One of these Suzuki dealerships is going to have to eat this fuck up, probably Long Beach Motorsports. I want my bike fixed correctly. I don't want to be bullshitted by not knowing what's going on. I don't know how honest the people I'm dealing with are.
I'm thinking that at the least the chain and front/rear sprockets need to be replaced. Is there anything else I'm missing. Could the transmission be messed up by riding a bike with a super-tight chain. Thanks for any input...I'll hear back from the dealer after they take some shit apart. Maybe this weekend.
