I have a copy of the service manual and it states that in oredr to measure the TP sensor output voltage that you need connect a "test harness" (suzuki part #09900-28630). I called two local dealers and they have never even ordered one of these for a customer, cost $45. I'm guessing that those of you who have adjusted their TPS in the past have discoved another method of checking the voltage of the TPS. Please fill me in...

hmmm. how many of you actually adjust this? Is it needed? I only have 3000 miles on my bike so far so im not sure if i want to even bother checking it.

I have done the TPS and STPS on my 051K. They do get out of range very easy and will greatly impact performance. It much easier than it looks.

For the TPS

1. Put the bike in dealer mode.
2. Set idle to 1150.
3. Adjust the TPS so the mark is in the middle.
4. Shut the bike off and re-start and verify it is still set dead on.

For the STPS

1. Lift the tank
2. Take off the air box cover.
3. Unplug the STVA connector.
4. You can either put the needle tester in the way shown or unplug the STP sensor and put the probe directly on the connections.
5. Turn the key on.
6. Push the secondary closed all the way. Make sure it is fully closed.
7. Adjust the STP until you tester shows it is between .48-.52 volts.

Both of these are very critical to the performance of the bikes so it is well worth the time spent.

On the weekend when i tried putting the bike into dealer mode with a paperclip as i do not have the dealerswitch. It blew my ignition fuse and the bike turned off so i needed to replace the ignition fuse. Why did this happen?? I was pretty sure I put the paperclip into the right holes. As well as nothing was flashing on the display showing it was in dealermode. Do you need a little paperclip to get it all the way down in the holes? or whats the best way to do this?
Another question i have is what do you mean by adjusting the idle to 1150. How do you do this? And while holding the paperclip in? thanks!!!

Wrong holes. Look at the pic below. Use the notch on the flat side as your referance as only one of the log sides has a notch. Notice the side facing up is smooth.

Lift the tank and turn the idle adjust screw until the tach shows 1150.

I have been playing with different STP sensor settings.

As stated above the setting range is .48-.52. While this seems minor there is quite a difference between setting it at .48 compared to setting it at .52.

I have tried the entire range each time verifying the TPS was set properly.

I was shooting for instant throttle response and for it to hit hard. I have found .50 seems to be the magic number for a completely stock bike.

I just though I would save you all some time and post my findings.

Once again, thanks for the info.

I think that I am going to do the same thing you've done; I'm going to spend the day playing with the STPS to try and find the ideal spot for my riding style. I'll let you know.

Please refer to my TPS post! I need help!! ahhh
