Hi Al! How are the new carbs treating ya? Did the seat you bought have a Corbin tag stitched into the upholstery too? While I hate branding and remove it all from my bikes, It is a tell tale sign of it being redone...
I too wanted a solo seat look that could carry a passenger. Corbin gunfighters always looked a little too puffy in the back and were way outside my budget.
Corbin actually started out here, in CT as Corbin-Gentry. So I brought my stock seat to Gentry (Corbins ex-wife) about 10 years ago. I gave her a second seat with the plastic solo cowl installed on it to use as a model. The result was awesome, exactly what I wanted. She charged me a meager $100!
Well some 40,000 miles later, it's starting to show it's age. A small tear has started in the nard area and it's starting to look a little lumpy, I think because the outermost layer of foam is degrading.
There are several different kinds of slabby Corbins out there. None of them seem to follow the lines of the tail well enough for me (to "puffy") One advantage the Corbins seem to have (that I'd really like to try) is the extra height and padding in the gonad area. The stocker is very low there and can pinch the sack on occasion, while the Corbin Gunfighter is very high in that area.
There's also the Lockhart-Corbin that's somewhere in between.
To make a long story even longer..
I picked up a beat-up old Lockhart-Corbin:
I'm going to bring it to my local upholstery guy with a solo seat as a model for the back. He says he'll redo any seat in any fashion for $200 bucks. I'll let ya know how it turns out...
Peace!
