Ya its not feeling too good now that i rode it for a half hour. It has an uneasy idle, if it idles at all, it died a few times if I didn't give it a little gas. Mid and high range feel really nice on the highway. But maintaining a speed its really sputtery. Im assuming its too rich all over because in the low range it sputters and in the high range I got black smoke comming out the pipe... Which adjustments to the carbs do you all suggest.

Running on 3rd ring down on needles, mixture screws 2.5 out.

My next day off work i think i will try going a not down on the needles, turning the mixture screws in .5 turns and possible lower the float level from 14.7 to 16 mm

This sound rational? Should i try one of these first try all at once to save myself from ripping the carbs in and out?

Doesn't seem to be running on all 4.

Don't worry about the float level too much. You shouldn't need to adjust it if all is in order. You would just be masking another problem...

Reading the factory pro explination in relation to my situation as fallows

Im running too rich all over the throttle range and it gets worse as i heat up.
So i eighter need new emulsion tubes... Mine looked ok but they do look like that have been used for some time.
Factory pro states selecting propor main jet then needle height then adjust mix screw then adjust float level.
I would really like to try and avoid buying multipul sets of jets and even the emultion tubs if possible. I called a tech for dyno jet and they said from my symptoms i should try first to adjust needle height ( to make it more lean i put the e clip down a notch i think? ) then he said try to adjust the mixture screw ( turn in a half turn or so ) after this try to lower float height to 16mm. If this all fails he said go with a new set of emulsion tubes.

Is this sound advice? The factory pro site basicly back that up

From what I'm reading 15mm is the correct setting.

I wouldnt worry about fuel level.

Chances are your idle jet is to big or your needle position is wrong (maybe even a wrongly shaped needle).

Becaus if you lower the fuel leven your mid and high end may be worser then before.

What kind of emulsion tube do you have?

Just an update, im waiting on a new DJ kit to see if that straitens me out. Been driving to and from work but fuel eco is shit! I can see the carbon pours out the pipe when i rev.

Installed the jet kit 2 nights ago but it was too late in the morning to fire it up at my appartments. So i got home from work tonight, fired it up and it ran beautiful. I could just tell it was better by the way it was in idle. But realized i drained the tank so it only burnt off what was in the carbs. So filled it up and it wouldnt start!!! Plugs must be fouled again, so now i need to wait till my next day off to get new ones. Its just teasing me.

Did you prime the carbs after you ran out of gas?

Well i primed it in the prime position. It had gas i checked using the drain screw. I was checking spark when i got home tonight and i must have been touching either the frame or the spark plug because i gave myself a wicked shock. Waiting till tomorrow to continue.

Its running much better now. I might even be runjing a little lean now. I didnt have it out long enough to tell. Its popping a lot when in neutral revving it. Smokes a lot less but still gives out a little puff. Lot more pull in the low end but still boggy but not as noticable. At under a quarter throttle at creeping speed it surges really bad still. I donno mayb my pilot system needs replacing. It doesnt have the metal washers on the mixture screws but ccmhunt has sent them my way. Thanks buddy. Going to go for a two hour drive tonight and just get a good feel for whats going on.

Don't expect these bikes to have any bottom end, it's not like a car.

If you lug it around under 2000 rpms, there is a power definciency...

Mine is flat and lifeless under 2500, and then takes off and runs like hell.

Yours shouldn't be popping though, or smoking...

Bricks and 2x4's you say.... go into detail.. it sounds like it goes by my cheap nature.

BTW I had my baby out for 100km this morning and it is officially FUN to ride it once more. I still need to wait to replace the chain to do any cornering, yes its that bad. But going strait is fun too sometimes.

Only thing is now I have a new issue (Man this thread is getting absurd)

I wanted to test out the main jets :punk so I went WOT on the highway in 6th gear at around 130 and it had really good pickup until it hit 8 -9k then it JUMPED to 11-13k and didn't seem to jump in speed ( Slipping maybe ) and then tried this in 5th and same thing. BUT I have never had the bike that high in rpm before so I don't know what the norm is.
