Chroming wont effect the frame??? Um, do u guys know the chemical processes that go into chroming?

D

A friend of mine cracked 3 wheels after chroming. They all cracked where the spoke mets the rim. He blamed it on the chroming process.

Look up hydrogen embrittlement. If done in an old shop that only does harleys and takes shortcuts, then maybe. Chroming aluminum is a delicate process of which most places will not guarantee it to not flake etc.

Take it to a good place that knows what they are doing. Usually the places tht know what they are doing will do aluminum. Places that only do steel will fuck it up but will also usually turn you away and recommend someone that does aluminum.

Yes, I do. Won't affect the frame.
Ok, no u dont. To say it wont effect the frame is retarded. One thing suzuki is way against, and teaches us about the bad things from doing it. About the only safe thing is powder coat.

Ok, I know nothing about working with aluminum. Nothing at all.

Chrome the frame. You'll be fine. I personally would anodize it a really slick colour. I've always wanted to see a gixxer frame hard anodized.

chroming will effect the strength of aluminum. I've seen many a wheel crack after chroming and slapping down a tall wheelie (or other abuse). I thought this was common knowledge... but since there is no concrete evidence that the K5 has a week frame I wouldn't rely on what I've 'heard'. we all know about "heard", she's a lying bitch.
by the way +1 on the anodizing. I've always wondered what that would look like. maybe if they had a color theme or a secondary color for all the aluminum. but i'm happy with my black frame.

what i am specifically asking this question for is the reasons that follow:

1. From what i know about the process, the frame is sanded and this most of the time will mean that some of the weld is sanded to some degree.

2. If this has been done to the K5, and there was frame issues, then they should be the first to give

I didn't want for this to be about what it looks like or anything like that....just wanted to see if the crome frames were holding up....

or if the stock look was the only ones that were snapping...

Chrome ones aren't on the track and hitting the walls at 100 as was pointed out earlier....meaning no frame issues....or am i looking at this wrong??
