Hey guys,

I'm not sure if this has been posted before but I couldn't get search to work atm.

I took my bike out for a cruise yesterday and I noticed under HEAVY braking from both the front and rear brake would cause the bike to "shutter" (vibrate) heavily.

What's the cause of this? I'm thinking the fork seals going out and allowing non-constant pressure.

Hmm. New tires, so that's probably not the case.

As for as the suspension can you elaborate? The front brake rotors seem to be fine, although the rear one doesn't look too great, but it also shakes during just heavy front brake applications.

Its warped brake disc's (Rotors)... I have the same prob on my car. They look straight but all it takes is 1 - 2mm to make it shudder. Ok in a car (I can live with it) on a bike though I would be getting those fixed ASAP!

I would get this checked out before worrying about suspension. They can be machined to fix this prob or you might want to invest in some shiny new ones...

That i do not know. But to check if they are bent/warped what you do is lay it on glass or a mirror and look at it. It will show any signs of warp/bend to your rotor. ( Thanks Lean )
They don't get "turned"
Too thin for turning and stainless rotors would get ground with a stone not turned on a brake lathe.
There could also be some foreign substance on the rotor such as brake fluid or previous pad deposits making the brakes shudder. (not shutter)

I think you where intending to talk to 99 haha. But isn't it called machined? Or re-surfaced?

To check the rotors put the front end up and hold a screw driver against the fork and have it just barely touching the rotor then get someone to slowly rotate the wheel. If it is warped it should drag or a gap should appear. Bit crude. Also when was the fork oil last changed? I have had a shudder my front end that I have been fighting for a few years. I have changed rotors and pads, new tire then I rebuilt the forks that seemed to help the most.

Sometimes, you have to go back to basics.

You said the tires are new? Did the problem start when the new tires went on the bike? I can not tell you how many times people get lazy and do not correctly balance tires. I had to fight with the tire vendor at the track to get him to rebalance the tires because of a bad braking vibration that did not start till he mounted tires for me.

Also, if you have the problem with front OR rear brakes only, I would look into bike setup or wheel bearings more then rotors. If the front rotors are warped, it should not get worse when only using the rear brake. Vise-Versa for the rear rotor.

Check wheel alignment and wheel bearings, but I would first look at wheel balance myself.

you could supply us with a little more info, one mans cruise is beyond another mans limit.. "heavy front brake applications"?

if you have a stock setup it just means you're using them above and beyond their optimal design which is not uncommon for a stock Japanese sportbike, I have baked every stock set I've ridden, slap on a set of sintered and move forward, after all there is a reason you can pick up a 186 mph sportbike for around $10k..

you want it all you have to pony up, Augusta fits the Senna with serious hardware, Japanese is Japanese...
