Had a shitty start to my morning when I pulled the bike of the garage and put the kickstand down and started it. I have a manual door, so I went inside to pull it down and I hear the bike topple over. The bike was on a slight downward incline and it was on erroding cement, so the kick stand must have slipped.

So after a series of expletives I picked up the bike and rolled it in the garage. it fell forward and dig itself into some sandy gravelly shit, so I immediately checked the bike over and found:

a scraped and slightly broken left mirror, a frame slider scuffed up and covered in mud as it dug into the ground, Scratched and scraped upper fairing, cracked stator cover (now leaking oil), scuffed and scraped left tail fairing, and a scraped up gas tank cowl.

What should I do? Could I find enough used peices in the same color for under $850 or could the body work be fixed, repainted and decaled for the same price (including a new stator cover and mirror)

My other option is my insurance... which will work out to $850 deductable... assuming they don't write it off.

Any input would be appreciated.

Get a used stator cover and drive the bike.... Those are what I call 'Battle Scars' Not a big deal. I stopped worrying about shit like that. It used to drive me crazy!!

Had the same exact thing happen to me! Had it on the kickstand on a slight downward driveway. had put it there many times before with no problem. It was standing on the kickstand just fine for about 5 minutes until I went to walk in the house for something and heard the noise that no one wants to hear. FML!!! Had case savers so no cracked stator cover, but similar scratches and scuffs.

I'm with you. He can get a brand new stator cover(woodcraft) and mirror. For much less than $850. He might be able to even cover up the fairing scratchs with some spray paint.

id get the parts need to get it back ridable and go with that for now and slowly fix the scratches with either new parts, or paint as time goes on. no need to fix it back to perfect all at once and before you ride it again. save up the money as you go and fix it perfect as you go. mine has been down 2 times. one in the truck after a 20 mile ride and it drops pulling in the parking spot at the shop??? lol but it was strapped still so it just kinda slid down slowly, and the other was the guy i bought it from droped while i was buying it up. both very minor and overall harmless unless you look for the scratches

Tough one but I feel your pain. I had a brain fart at the worse possible moment...putting her up on the rear stand. The far side didn't get hooked properly and down she went. Bad afternoon...but I just got her back in running condition and decided to just ride on. Still haven't redone the fairings but for me, I've learned to live with it...a constant reminder to myself to always, ALWAYS have my head in the game when it comes to her. But if it gets to you, eBay or craigslist it and piece her back together. Brand new OEM will cost you a lot, and I wouldn't let insurance taint her for that.

Dude! That sucks! I'm sorry that happened to you.
i need to be more careful too. cant assume anything.
anyway, you may want to try simpsoncycles.com.
it's used stuff but pretty cheap. you might not get everything all at once but just revisit the site once in awhile to see if they have the parts you need.
the only caveat is that i've never bought from them but i'm looking to purchase some cowling parts soon. my 2 cents.

I got a good one for yuh too. My dad has a Harley. Big bagger type. Put in on the kickstand went up to close the garage door. Looks back and teh bike is rolling down the drive still on the stand (incline driveway) runs into my sisters fender and smashes it up pretty good (unrepairable ahd to replace it) then the bike fell over lol

I pulled a dumb-ass drop myself not too long ago. Picked up some parts at simpson cycles to get it on the road again. Nice and cheap. Paint is a little rough, but I can deal with it until I have the free time to fix it up myself.

insurance claim? :wacko

so for 2011 - everyone in the world who owns a bike should file a claim when they have a lil mishap like that. Motorcycle insurance will go from $100/month for full coverage to $100,000/month for full coverage.

we thank you in advance :thumbdown

Don't feel so bad, the other day someone hit my bike with their car. I always park parallel with my garage door when I'm ready to park my bike for the night. I go inside for not even 10 minutes and come back out. The neighbors daughter tells me someone knocked over my bike. I pay no mind as people mess with me all the time telling me that. As I'm not convinced she walks me to my bike and lone behold... Bike is all fucked up, all kinds of shit broke and scrapes everywhere from sliding down the brick wall. :cursing

I hope I find the pussy ass motherfucker who didn't have the balls to tell me they hit my bike. I'll make sure they have a day as bad as mine when they ruined the love of my life.... Pussies

Sorry man, but you're an idiot for making that claim. Your insurance is going to skyrocket. You could have bought those parts used and no one would have ever known.:chucks
My insurance rate will not change. It is not subject to hikes as it is not through a private company. Saskatchewan operates a mandatory crown corp insurance.

At the rate I could find parts, I would be fixing for two years. To find all those peices in awesome shape, in OEM colors would be such a fucking hassle and would probably end up costing the same to fix in the end. Unless you wanna round them all up and ship them to me...

Maybe a little late but I have right/left OEM silver/black side fairings (new) I bought a couple years ago. Was going to change my color scheme on the bike but the all black grew on me. Anyhow I plan on putting them on ebay at some point.
