Has anybody seen the articles Performance Bike magazine (UK) has been doing on the K1 1000? at one point they did a port job on the head that gained 20 horses at the wheel. I think they said it was in the neighborgood of $600, but thats in that UK money. They did say it was the same price as a power commander and an exhaust, but more power for the buck. My question is this close to possible and if so where can i get my head ported in the same fashion?

There is a rule that goes with making more power.

A new part will only gain you as much power as the current part is restricting you.

hypothetical example: if you have a motor that has a throttle body that can flow 850 cfm, but your motor is only capable of flowing 750 cfm, a 1000cfm throttle body will gain you nothing. If that same motor was upgraded to flow 950 CFM the upgrade will now only get you the HP equivalance of 100 cfm.

So with stock camshafts or cylinder sizing you may not feel a huge improvement by porting the cylinder head,(granted i have no idea how restrictive the factory head on your bike is) but if you were to change camshafts and/or increase your CCs then you will notice a drastic difference by increasing the airflow of the head.

So if you port your cylinder head without the correct supporting modifications then you just wasted a whole bunch of money.

i know there are many places that do head porting, but this article spoke of reducing the heads port volume by using epoxy, rather than increasing the heads port volume by grinding them out with a die grinder. it was a 20hp gain on a stock motor, so im very curious to know if US head porters are doing this technique
