Hey guys I dont post much but I am always on here reading and now I have a prob with my baby. I have a 2000 gsxr 600 and I tore it apart so that i could get it painted(will post pics when I get it put back together if I can figure it out lol) and I got all the parts back and started to put it back together and I put the tank back on and plugged it into the wiring harness and the pump started working. The issue here is the key was not in the ignition. I put the key in and turned it on and back off but that did not work the pump just kept on humming. I also noticed at that point that I dont have any lights working anywhere. My guages wont power up or anything. By the way it is a brand new battery lol. I have went through and checked all my connectors and made sure that the are clean and fully put together. I have a wiring diagram for the bike but the print is so small I cant hardly read it. :dunno :banghead Please Help!!!!!!!!!!! Dont know what else to do. Thank you for your help been working on it for 4 hours going to go to bed now but i will check back later today.

Mine is doing the same thing basically. If i turn the key on sometimes nothing will happen, no power at all no lights no gauges, but if it sits a second everything will kick on. As soon as i hit the starter swith...all power turns off. My battery isn't new tho, so i'm gonna start there. Let us know if you get it fixed.

There is a good wiring diagram on here somewhere. It is bigger print than most. You can try searching for it.

I used it too trace wires for my speedo when it wasnt working before. Turned out my Gauge was just broken.

Sadly enough thats the only one I have right now.

Sounds almost like a bad ignition.

Well unfortunately I got stuck at work today so no time to work on it. I am going to pull the battery and have it tested and thank you for the wiring diagram GreenDayFreakRct I will print it and see what I got and I hope its not possessed sradiator lol and gsxr-freak is there a way to check and see if the ignition switch is bad. Thanks again for all your help guys. Ok after not being able to sleep I went out and started tracing wires. It seems that the fuel pump relay which is built into the starter solenoid is sending constant power to my fuel pump. Not sure if this has anything to do with the rest of the bike not having power. I am ging to assume that the starter solenoid is bad. any takers on this idea.

I am sure that the service manual has a way to test the ignition switch... Off hand, I am not sure. It would likely need to be disconnected from the wire harness and then set to off, doing a continuity test and then turning to on, park, and so on.

My thinking is that maybe the ignition is failing and has one signal always on and the rest are not turning on?

I unplugged the ignition switch from the harness and matched the wire colors up with the above diagram and everything tested good. I also tested every switch on the bike that the starting circuit runs through and those that dont. I stopped at a local repair shop and he said that it sounds like something is plugged in wrong. I explained to him that every plug is different and that its not possible. He does not think the solenoid is bad. I just dont know where to go next I have tried everything that I can think of. He can not even come close to looking at it for at least a week and a half:banghead. I want to be back up and running for Super Bike Weekend at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. Any other ideas out there from anybody please.:frantic

Test the relay itself. You should NOT have a closed circuit with the relay out of the bike. If it is closed with no power running to it, then you know the relay is bad.

Ok I found the plug that turns off the pump off it is the plug that plugs into the starter solenoid Which is where the cable from the battery goes to just in case I called it the wrong thing. Have to go to work so i will take a pic of it when I get home tonight.

Hmmm. So your fuel pump will keep running?:shifty

If everything worked before you had it painted then :wtf

Don't you hate mystery problems:lmao This happened in the Marines with the helo's I worked on and honestly sometimes a good tap to the suspected component will loosen things up where they started working.

Will the pump continously hum or just for a few seconds. Ima check out the diagram where the solenoid plug is, but I would think that power is sent to pump at the exact same time it is sent to the solenoid. Why would power run to the solenoid and then to the pump, the solenoid just starts bike right?

Sounds like a bad relay :dunno

looks like the solenoid valve energizes the fuel pump relay which, then energizes fuel pump and the fuel pump appears to have some sort of sensor that controls it's operation (A and B) on the schematic. I wanted to say that your relay is bad but if the key is not even in the ignition then power should never have been sent to the solenoid valve so even if the relay was stuck it still shouldn't energize the pump.

This would drive me crazy, wait it is and it's not my bike. Good luck with this, Can't wait to hear the fix...

Best I can tell with the fuel pump out of the tank the A and B are fuel level sensors and I was thinking that the starter solinoid is bad because the pump circuit should not run all the time so I am thinking that the contacts are stuck in the wrong position.

sounds like the fuel pump relay is stuck on. pull the relay and see if the pump turns off.. its a simple check. you shouldn't need the pump out of the tank.

Ok guys this is what I have figured out so far. It is not the starter solenoid and if i unplug the fuel pump relay it just keeps on humming. Now here are a couple things that really got me confused. I was using the wiring diagram from above and started to notice that there was some difference beween my bike and this diagram so I called local dealer and found out that they changed the wiring harness on the 2000 gsxr 600. The problem with that is that I can not find a updated wiring schematic. The dealer wont give me a copy of theirs obviously "Bring it in we will take a look at it". So if there is anybody out there that has a wiring schematic for a 2000 gsxr 600 that would be a great help. Any other ideas maybe :dunno
