At the risk of being flamed or told "it is worth what you are prepared to pay", I would be interested on the views of others regarding an '87 GSXR 750 that I have been offered here in Mexico (understand that the bike was imported from the USA several years ago - clean title, not salvage).

Bike appears to be in clean original condition, although it looks as though it has modern non OEM rims with wider rubber fitted. Bike is only showing around 16k miles and from looking at the engine screws, does not look as though it has ever been apart - even appears to have the original muffler (the beauty of the Mexican climate, rust is not a problem).

Would be grateful for any pointers that members can provide on a realistic value and anything in particular I should look out for when buying (aside from the risk of a gun being put to my head when I pull up at the lights in Mexico City!!)

My guess would be low 3's. They aren't original wheels, but check eBay and you'll see that you can get the original's for about $100 a set. They ran 18" tires and you can't replace them with anything decent, so 17's are preferred.

Go check Bryce88's post and see how much he spent to basically re-create what you have there...

going from the fotos, i can only tell you what they go around here in the US; anywhere from $2-3K.

the wheels are from a 90-92 gsxr, so they are nice upgrade. better handling and better choice of tires. if you want stock, then you can easily purchase the 18's and sell the 17's.

buena suerte

Not sure if the GSX-Rs were imported into Mexico, so the values are quite different from domestic USA sales. The wheel upgrade is a good thing, as you have a much wider and better choice of tires available.

The bike doesn't appear to be molested so that adds to it's value too.

What shape is the body work? Does it have cracks in the plastic? Check around the mounting holes as that is were the plastic tends to have more stress. Other than it being the wrong (slower) color, it looks to be in good shape.

A bike in that good of shape in Southern California could sell for $2K to $3K. Adding about $1K more for Mexican market would not be out of the question.

If he is asking over $4K, walk away and wish him good luck selling the bike. If the seller needs money, he may call you back and accept your offer. Remember, times are tough right now so there are plenty of deals out there.

Good luck, hope this info helps.

Thanks for all your input - so its true that the blue / white ones are faster!! Maybe not the case at 2,500 metres above sea level as here in Mexico City - in any event given the conditions of the road surfaces here in the City, combined with the risk of being shot or kidnapped, overall top speed is not my main concern!!

will be a really nice place :sad

I'd want all the speed I could get. :p
Speed does a body good!! Hoot Hoot - don't not-speed. The early bird catches the speed. Dream a little speed. To err is human, to speed is divine. Once, twice, 3 times a speed. Knock knock... who's there?... speed! Luke - be one with the speed. Don't always judge a book by it's speed.

So there... does everyone GET IT!! Speed is everywhere, and in everyone. Now let's get out there, and get some speed!! ** crowd going wild - cheering, screaming for speed **

:punk

Thats a nice ride Mexico or no Mexico! Im sure its dusty cause I know mexico has some fucked up roads. But its still looking good for a old dog. Hey buddy I got friends in Rosarito and one time we raced 8 of us from Rosarito to Esenada on the toll road. We got from point a to point b in 17mins. I had my bike Tached deep in the red line the whole time! I felt as God gave me the keys to Isle Of Man course. NO cops, No law! That was the baddest ride ever!
