1997 Suzuki GSXR 1100 (1127) Oil-Cooled Engine Confusion: Genuine or Not?

Hi guys anyone shine some light on my problem just brought Gsxr 1100, (1127) engine and frame number both indicate its a 1997 and its oil cooled, seems that all the info says no oil cooled were made after 96,had i checked buy a friend and numbers are genuine including the embossed 1127 on the bottom of the left-hand barrel its naked so no tell tail bodywork or stuff to give any indication

1127 would indicate an oil cooled motor.
Oil cooled motors were discontinued in 1993 when Suzuki went to water cooling in their gsxr's in the U.S.A.
Some folks have been known to put oil cooled motors in water cooler frames and that be be the case here?
