Incorrect, not all banks require full coverage. Mine doesn't.
Thats not an actual vehicle loan then, its actually an unsecured debt loan and they can charge all kinds of high interest rates and penalties that are not allowed when getting a true vehicle loan.

Basically its like a credit card, and they will be allowed to bump your rate and do other nasty things to make your life hard if they want.

Incorrect, not all banks require full coverage. Mine doesn't. At $3000-4000/year I can fix my bike several times and still come out cheaper than paying full coverage. The only thing that sucks is Theft. But to my defense on that I live on a Military base, bike is garaged, and I never let it out of my sight if I stop for any reason.

To the OP. I also live in Alabama and I can already tell you you're fucked on Insurance. You're not going to find cheap insurance here. Not at your age. I'm older, married, military, perfect credit and I still can't find under $3000 for full coverage.

I wish you luck, you're going to need it.

Looked into covering it on your Home owners? I did this with several ATV's and even 500 miles away from my house at the sand dunes when they were stolen, I was covered. :dunno

10% rule I guess.

That's very very high. Shop around. Even check other SF agents.

Progressive sucks ass.

If you buy a policy and then cancel it the next day, it's going to cost you. Progressive will pro-rate because you signed a contract. SF may do the same, I don't know.

Farm Bureau has decent rates too.

Again, keep shopping it around.

Right, And $400 a month divided by a 30 day month it would cost you $13.33 per day of coverage. :dunno

Big picture shit is what gets ya on this. Piece of mind, blah blah blah...:cheers

It's a good thing FL doesn't require insurance on bikes (even though some cops don't even know that)

If you want bike insurance down here,

dat is so not true,it varies on a person by person driving history ........ just call around .but probably best if you go in ......i have state farm and i pay $24.00 fully covered, but i had to move my other vehicles there..................

Farm Bureau is who I go through as well, and they cover medical on motorbikes which is a plus. They were even cheaper for me than SF, although after my accident I will never recommend SF.

As far as covering a street bike on homeowners, you might look into that as I haven't found one that will cover it for theft or fire - it is to have its own policy. Or so I was told, my dirt bike is covered by homeowners though.

Even for my race bike, I had to take out a theft/fire policy on it or no coverage.

I don't under stand why I got quoted $400 monthly (full coverage) by state farm. I'm 23. One ticket in the last 3 years. Help??

Bike I'm planning on getting is a 2008 gsxr 600.
I wonder what they want to insure a 1000 down there?

:eek:hmy

I would seriously be looking into getting a PO box in another state and insuring/plating it there.

There must be a shitload of bike theft in that area?

I bought my first bike in June, K7 1000 ( I know I know) and I called around everywhere prior to buying the bike. Forget about Gieco or Progressive, they have so much overhead with all their commercials and all. I ended up going with SF because it was the absolute cheapest that I could find. I was qouted $686 for the year with 100K/300K/100K coverage and a 500.00 deductible. I paid half of that over the phone at the stealership and was told I needed to pay the other half in 30 days. About two weeks later I get a call from the agent and she tells me I only owe them another $52 bucks because the underwriters always quotes them a higher amount for some reason. IDK WTF that means and don't care because my insurance came out to be alot cheaper than I what I thought. I could have saved a few dolloars if I would have went with the 600/750 or Busa but I wanted a 1K. You might check with the agent to make sure this might be the case with you. BTW my age (37)and no tickets have something to do with mine being that cheap...

It covers your bike if you cause the accident.

If you are getting a loan on the bike you will need to get collision.

All cash buyer - you can get liability which only covers the other drivers car.
this is not true! I always hear this from people but i have owned two brand new bikes now and neither bank required me to have full coverage, i didnt get full coverage on my ninja 250 but thought it would be a good idea to have on my 08 gsxr 600.

also if i had to pay 3-4 K a year on insurance i just wouldnt ride plain and simple!

Maybe because they don't believe people in Alabama ride anything other than their cousins? LMAO j/k... Keep shopping around.. some places are just like that.. State Farm charges me 500/yr.. Progressive wanted 4k a year??? BAH

Wow that's a lot of cash! Maybe it is because your coverage is really high? Have you tried lowering some of your rates?

I pay $375 a YEAR with All State(full coverage) and I'm 19 with one ticket(failer to obey traffic device, 1 point) in Maryland.

Then again... my bike is a '93 GSXR600, haha. Old bikes are definitely the way to get low insurance rates! =D

It's "That", not "Dat". You are also wrong. The other guy you quoted was right. Florida does not require insurance for motorcycle riders. However, it is recommended, due to accidents and bikes getting stolen. You are not going to be be mandated to have insurance just because you have a ticket, but a guy without a ticket won't be mandated to have insurance. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever freaking heard.
