Hey guys and girls,
I haven't seen any real threads with pics showing where you would mount a ballast if you decide to install an HID kit onto your 2008 GSXR. I've decided to make this thread so that it can be Searched for in the future incase someone is curious where I mounted mine. =)
Most kits out there are plug and play. All you have to do is remove your old headlight (check the manual for how to do that) and plug in the flat male-connectors to the where the headlight plugged into. The only downside now is that the plug is somewhat exposed so i decided to wrap mine a few times with electrical tape so that water won't get in.
I find that the hardest part of the install is where to mount the ballast. After ripping apart the plastics, i couldn't find any location to mount it! The plastics are quite tight on the bike with no room underneath, and wiring length of the HID kit is also a limiting factor. I don't feel safe cutting and extending wires of the kit either so the trunk is out of the question.
After poking around I decided to mount the ballast on the plastic flap just below the headlight housing. There's one hole there and so i used long zapstraps to secure the ballast. My ballast doesn't weigh much so i can't see this flap sagging from weight either. Also, the ballast wires come out to the left of the bike (clutch side).
Once i was tied down, i had the wires mounted up and tied away so that it wouldn't interfere with the steering damper at all. Double check on yours to make sure it doesn't smack the plug of the damper unit when turning limit to limit!
On with the pics!
