[pardon my crappy typing, im typing left handed]

So i was riding through Loch Raven today and i came around a corner and a wrx wagon was ripping through the turn going the other way. He turned too wide and crosse the double yellow. I swerve, hit sandish gravel junk and slide into the guard rail. I bouned off and layed the bike over on the left side. I started spinning, my front wheel hit the vertical I beam that goes into the ground. it taco'd my rim, i tumbled and spun and slid.

My head hit the ground on the back then front of the helmet. my face shield popped off. i got up and my friend and a passing harley helped me get my bike off the road. Fire truck, ambulance, cops, closed road. i refused to go in the ambulance.

had my bike towed home ($175 for 5 miles), then had a friend take me to the ER.

My gear saved my life. See my gear here, about 1/4 down: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4473634

i got a bump on elbows, knees are sore, and im achey. No road rash, other then skinned knees from my jeans.

The only damage is my right hand. I got a "boxers fracture".

See my pinky:

They are doing surgery and installing pins on Tuesday.

I'll post pics of the bike tomorrow.

im dreading waking up tomorrow!!!
im in a similar situation here. fuk it lesson learned. (curious...gettin back in the saddle)??

loch raven is great...usually you get stuck behind people going 5 mph not over the speed limit...gotta watch out after it rains too, seems mud always runs across it...good thing your ok, for the most part!

Quick update. Typing with 1 hand sucks so im going to be brief.

Surgery went well, hand still hurts like hell.

Heres a nice shot of my right hand :)

Here are some crappy pics I snapped the other day.

-Nose is cracked in multiple spots, waiting on the Infrared Racing kit
-Right side fairing is scraped
-Forks are bent
-windscreen cracked
-shifter rod, shifter, and peg all mangled and bent
-front wheel is cracked/bent
-brake rotors appear to be scraped along the edge in the same spot where the wheel is cracked
-left frame slider is loose, im hoping the slider is broke and not the motor mount bolt
-gauge cluster says its in neutral but its hard to tell because the shifter is mangled and the bike wont roll because of the front wheel
-my spool ripped off, breaking the bolt
-bar ends are scraped
-left side clipon appears to just need readjusting
-upper fairing stay bracket is bent (probably why the windscreen cracked)

This is all i can remember, ill take more pics later.

Here are some before pics:

The bike took some beatings :), now I have to fight you on ebay for parts :p
I just replaced my bent fork, it's actually super easy, remove the wheel, loosen 6 bolts and slide the fork out :)

but you are lucky it's "just" your hand, seems like the bike took the most beating

Glad to hear your ok.
From the street to the track, I have seen some BAD crashes in my time. Some very minor as well. Anything you can up and walk away from is a good day.

For me, the big question is this, did you learn what could do different next time? I always feel that every crash has something you can learn from. In this case, two things I would look at for myself...

1) If not so close to the center line, would it have saved you? I always try to think, what if that guy is running wide in the other lane... It is easier to tighten a line mid corner then to widen the line. So I try to remind myself to stay on the wide side of the turn.

2) If the gravel was not thick, could you have made it without going down in it? Maintenance throttle comes into play here. It isnt the easies thing to do, but it has saved me more then once in gravel surprised corner. It is always going to work, but it is good practice. Also with gravel, proper body positioning will help a lot so you do not need to lean the bike as far over.

Again, I am glad your ok! But try to use it for something to learn off of. You just never know, it might save your life!

WOW!! good luck buddie! So sorry to hear what has happened..

So I'm sitting in the reg today, getting plates for the GIXXER, and what do i see right in front of me.. A RMV agent passing an older woman, who can't breath, can't see, and can't hear... Had no clue what was going on.. And they gave her a licence... What can we do about this one... Take the plate down, and stay away from her! Other drivers suck... Shit riders do to! I hate to see a the bike down man!! Really do!

Please tell me, someone got the plate, or you saw something that stuck out on the car you can track them down with! I would, No question... And I would show up on there door step, waiting for the door to open, with the bike right next to you, just to see the person face! I'll stop there! Nothing more i hate, then a hit and run!
