So I just canceled my insurance cause I am in the process of turning my K7 600 into a track bike and I although I only got 3 track days in this season I am happy.

Well, while I was on the phone with progressive I just asked about coverage on the track if I was to get into a wreck. I mentioned it wasn't a race since there isn't a timer but, according to there policy only place they would cover crashes would be outside the track. So pretty much the paddock and thats it. To them they say it is wreckless driving and they won't cover it.

So if you have progressive and do track days I would call your agent to clarify on this topic

It's a training environment. You spend time in a classroom and get your bike adjusted to your wieght and then you go out and apply those skills on the track. This makes you a better rider, better prepares you to have to control your bike in an 'oh-shit' moment, and just plain saves you from getting in accidents. If you make it a track only bike (no headlight, tail light, mirrors, blinkers, etc) it will not be coverable by insurance. But if it's street legal, and you 'take it to the 'training room' every once in a while, it will be covered by insurance. It's all in the wording bro! Say it the right way and it'll be covered. I know someone that did it...

well at the time bike on the track my bike was still street rideable..but now it aint...i am not worried about wrecking on a just track bike cause ..different story if I was on the street but doing just track now I know most likely if I wreck its because of me ...

State farm covers it as long as there's no trophy at the end :cheers
I'm not so sure about that. I just switched to State Farm (super cheap :punk) and specifically asked about this. I forgot exactly how that clause of the policy is worded, but it's something along the lines of, "Incidents occuring during the course of competition or in an area that is primarily intended for competition shall not be covered." You may not be actually racing, but a racetrack is definitely primarily intended for competition.

It seems there is some room for interpretation here. Has anybody actually claimed a track day wreck with State Farm?

well look at the bright side if u get into an accident on the track u have really 3 out comes a low side, high side, or running into someone .... thats if your not riding out side your ability. On the road u have so much more to worry about, other drivers, animals, trees, ect...I'll take my chances getting into a accident on the track all day long before I go back out on the streets ever again

nope a track day is primarily intended for learning ;) It's all in how you word it. The track days I go to have instructors, class room sessions, etc. :cheers But definitely call up your agent to check. Everyone is different.

thats insurance fraud, and its a felony.

i'm in insurance. in no way does everyone get caught, but ppl certainly do.

ur call tho. guess its risk v reward.
Especially if it happens to be in front of the track photographer, and you post pics of it online, someone may find out that shouldn't. Then you're busted.

Yes, I know someone on this forum (and for his privacy I will keep his name to myself) who made a claim with State Farm after wrecking on the track and was paid for every last bit of damage to the bike, but he got a statement from the track people saying it was for training. So if you, the trackday hosts, and your insurance company are all on the same page, you should be safe. :burnout Go have fun!

Will people please stop commiting fraud and stunting on the streets and doing 186 in a 65? You make us responsible riders look bad :dissapointed

don't post pictures on line then. and don't talk about it. or say yeah I did then I fixed it then i crashed it again on the road. This is not hard people. At least I don't think it is. I think people read way to much into it. You better stop downloading that music too. Its your call tho. IF I ever crash on the track the bike is stolen. I hate insurance company take all the money and never pay out. Fuck them all.

wreckless driving
Wreckless driving sounds like a positive thing!
Driving where you never wreck? The insurance companies ought to like this sort of driving

I called progressive. The girl researched it, I basicly explained that the bike is not being raced and is on a closed course with instructors and class room time. No race against time or other drivers and that the idea of the class is to improve cornering and turning and optimally having the most fun you can have on your bike without the worries of traffic or street hazards.

She basiclly said the bike will not be covered if there is a crash on the track if a investigation proves you were racing at time of crash then you will have your coverage dropped by them and will no longer be able to insure a motorcycle with progressive. You are covered for the to and from track, but not on the track. There are insurance companies that specialize in this but they don't make reccomendations.

She also said any operation of the bike over the national speedlimit of 75mph will also cause your insurance to be dropped. So if you do track classes and you are under that speed you will be ok.

Ok now my opinion. If you do go to track make sure you have health insurance lol just incase god forbid something happens. Its kind of stupid to me that if you speed on track it fucks you over outside of track. If nothing happens no one knows, cool, but if something did happen your fucked overall. This is also only regarding the bike that is insured. If you have ideally 2 bikes 1 for street 1 for track only than none of this applies to you.

I hoped this info helps anyone who needs it I was on the phone with them for 20 mins lol

That's not true.

If your agent told you that, get it in writing, because their policy never covers damage on the track, period.

No insurance company covers damage or claims on a track, on bikes or cars. That's a special policy you need to purchase for each event.
