Hi Guys
This is probably a stupid question, but i'll ask anyway.
I'd like to mod my bike into a Street fighter, but figured out since the fairing is gone that in my opinion the radiator is way to big, and disturbs the optic of the bike.I am aware that the bike needs a radiator, but does anybody maybe know if i can use a smaller one? Any input is appreciated.

You would be better off starting a fighter project with one of the oil cooled gixxer's. At least then you just have a small "radiator" to cool the oil.

Hi it sounds like a cool project:)I posted some info about a simular topic here in this posting. The guy have trouble with overheating.
This is the link http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=212487

I figure you should be able to run a smaller radiator.Have you looked at the rads from the newer gsxr's after 2001?They are smaller in size and weighs a lot less.I'm not 100% sure but I think they have the rad cap on the rad instead of under the tank as our 750's do.The RF900 rad has the cap on the side instead of under the tank but they are simular in size as the 750.

I have the same issue with my 1100 fighter.. I think the best solution is just getting a "good" looking radiator from a newer bike.. It seems quite easy to adapt basically any radiator from a liter bike of your choice . Most newer rads are silver and pretty cool.

You can have the stock radiator dipped or blasted to remove the black paint.
Your bike won't look so cool when it's overheating on the side of the road because a "cool" but inadequate radiator failed to keep it from overheating!
Looking "cool" and keeping cool are NOT the same thing!

I believe you would increase cooling efficiency with a newer rad from a liter or even 750 ! you can get double fans for some as well ! I think it was a member called evo who dropped in a zx-7 rad and it was cooler and "cooler" !

My .02 cents... The newer rads are significantly lighter for sure! And even from my switching to an ol' school ZX-7 (rad approx. same size) it is Lighter by far - has a cool factory installed protective cage (can be removed/painted) and is raw aluminum on tank's (polishing a plus),etc... I noticed significant cooling instantly after installing - after attempts with every form of aftermarket additive (water wetter/ Engine ICE and coolant, along with a Muzzy Fan, drilled modded low temp t-stat, new waterpump,etc... The newer Rad's, Liter bikes and the like are all smaller/shorter and more triagular in shape which I think would compliment an older Bike like ours going for the Streetfighter look - Hell just by removing the Belly,Upper and side fairing probably signifcantly helped it run cooler, but the factory mess is kinda ugly all painted Black n stuff. Try relocating Oil cooler under seal and or converting to the 750 style (oil filter housing cooler conversion), or you could replace the existing with some trick braided AN line, fittings and a raw aluminum mini style cooler to the front to match the new Rad?... I onno, but ya cant go wrong gettin rid of that factory garbage - so good luck to ya in your quest.... Supposed to be in the 70's here this weekend - if my F*ckin Oil cooler wasnt bleedin to death I surely be up on ONE!!
:cheers

Just a thought, and probably more expensive than you may want to go, but if could find a higher flow water pump (if they are available), I'm sure going to about 3/4 the size rad would work fine.
