Helping a mate build a K3 1000 streetfighter.

He's got a "Wide ass" kit for it from a K6. (swingarm/wheel etc)

The K6 swingarm has a smaller pivot shaft than the K3.

I'm wondering if the K5/6 frame pivot boss will fit in the K3 frame to allow the K6 pivot to be used.

Worst case well custom make some K3 pivot bosses with the smaller K6 thread in them but it'd be nice if we can just use the factory parts (even if they need to be modified)

Any ideas or help most appreciated.... :punk

I was just looking at a K1 the other day and I was thinking how much better the K1-K4 swingarms look. They have that "hand-built" kind of look. I was searching to see if anyone had tried to swap them out and found this thread. Have you figured anything out? I know its only been a couple days but I figured I'd ask anyways lol

EDIT: I've never had a swingarm off so bare with me. If I understand it right, the pivot bosses thread into the frame, right? You're asking if the holes are the same size and thread with different bosses, right? I know this wont help you but, if they're not, and I wanted to use a K3 arm do you think I could drill out the frame and re-tap them to the right thread pitch for the K3 bosses?

Also, is the pivot bolt the same length?

Yeah, the K5/K6's have sloppy, inconsistent welds. The robots much have had too much sake.

I actually have a Hayabusa arm in my K2.

Depending on the pics you saw it's probably a Hayabusa swingarm you see.

The Busa arm does have a good shape to it and it's braced all the way to the end.

Yeh it'a about 25mm-30mm longer.

The extra lenght helps traction heaps. It still wheelies a bit but it's much better.

I have adjustable head stock and CF wheels so it still turns nice and fast.

adjustable triple trees basically have bushings where the neck stem passes through the tree. By changing out the bushing you change your degree of rake. Attack I believe still makes them.

I've got attack triples on two 04 1000's (my bike + the bike I built for my buddy)

I really like them! Very nice quality. Certainly stiffer than stock (and hell they might even be lighter - the clamps are MUCH thicker than stock, but the steering stem is aluminum vs stock steel)

The best part is the adjustable geometry though. I had bad headshake issues with my bike, running the huge 190/60 D209s (which also grow in size at speed). +4mm offset made all that go away! Very noticeable difference in the bike (the other part of the solution was a stiffer rear shock spring - but thats a different story....)

Adjustable triples only change the offset of the forks not the rake.

The rake is set by the frame.

Changing the offset changes the trail.

Makes a huge difference to the turn, the way it holds a line, and stability trade off.

yup, you'll need the k5/6 spindle/bushes and then have 2 spacers made-up....... i did exactly this :cheers
infact i may have the 2 spacers here [the engineering shop sent me 2 of each so i have a spare pair somewhere]
