i have been foolin around with the idea of a track school of some kind and so far i can't seem to find a group that would let me progress at a pace that would make dumping 1500 bucks acceptable. every time i read a review two weeks latter i read that they don't do this or that. it seems that most of these schools are geared to the masses not the more hard core, challenge your students mentality. I want to be pushed and pushed hard. Any help from the more experienced racers would be greatly appreciated. and if you have done a course and your riding improved and your all excited and your bike looked sooo cool all taped and track preped and you touched your knee for the first time do me a favor post somewhere else.:cursing

Expierence makes you a better rider, at the track the only thing to concentrate on is your riding, no other cars, peds, gravel, oil, any track time is good time. I would go do a track day, start in the slow group. If possible go there with atleast one other friend it makes tying the bikes on easier, and it's also fun to talk about during and afterwards.

I had a friend who is a fairly fast novice racer who got the Kevin Schwantz School as a Christmas gift. After he attended the school he said it was a waste of time and that he benefited more from a one private day with our top expert and it was 1/3 the cost.

I would recommend doing a TD and signing up for Personal Training, or whatever your particular org calls it, with the top instructor. they will take you at your own pace as fast as you want to go and gradually pick up the pace throughout the entire day. This is good for an experienced rider more then a newb though, as it is meant to pick out little flaws in your riding, not mold you into a great rider.

A race school would be a better choice judging by the way you sound. If you have no track experience then i would just go with a trackday environment and learn that way.

That is the link to Keith Code's Superbike School. I have attended the 2-day camp and it was excellent. They will start you out slow so you dont develop bad habits (or fix the ones you already have like they had to do me :banghead) and then bring you up to speed.

But they bring you up to speed in a manner so you never feel like you are "pushing it". The make you concentrate on ONE drill at a time. Then by the end of the first day, they are all coming together and you are much better/faster without really noticing it.

Who was the person he got one private day with and how did he go about setting that up??? I ask b/c i remember you mentioned being with ridesmart track org. and was wondering how to get that kind of instruction from Ty Howard or equivalent instructor. Thanks

If you have never done a trackday before, I would do one or 2 of those and then jusdge your own abilities. The most important thing is to check your ego at the gate and be honest with yourself. I personally wouldn't bother with a race school until you are at least in the intermediate group for whatever trackday org you are going with.

Granted, if you have already done trackdays, and you feel that you are ready and competent to move to the next level... then a race school if for you.

Ty Howard will give you one on one instruction at Cresson for $500 per day. He's a member there and can do that on weekdays. I haven't heard of him doing private lessons for non-racers but I don't see why he wouldn't if you are already semi-fast and had the basics already. I have a couple friends who did lessons and they lowered their laptimes by a few seconds from where they started the day at. Larry Myers does lessons as well and he's good as well.

Star is a great Trackday school. They are around the price of others and are very nice. I've been riding for around 10 years and came out of the 2day school with a whole new outlook on riding. Just remember no matter how long you've been riding these guys are professionals so lesion to there advise.
