2 months ago, I bought a set of Metzler M3's to use on my 600rr. I recently sold that bike, and bought a K8 750. Obviously the new bike came with new tires and won't need the M3's till end of this year, possible next year.

They will be stored for approx 1 year. Will the tires dry out? Any tips on how to store them? Or will they be ok?

Every tire has a date code on the sidewall indicating when it was made. Usually 4 digits, the week and the year (0101 = first week of 2001, 4407 = 44th week of 2007).

As long as the tires are brand new, never used, you can comfortably keep them stored for 2-2.5 years. I would keep them in plastic bags away from sunlight, and out of the garage if possible. Once the tires have been used, they really should be used within 1-1.5 years (sport/supersport street tires).

Good info. Thanks.

LOL.....I'm using Super Corsa rears (super soft) on my motard that were mfg'd in 2001 and they still stick like glue.

Too bad I'm burning thru a rear in one practice day, 2 heat races and 2 mains.:monkeyface

But at $50 mounted, I could care less.:biggrin

just keep them off the floor and stack them on there sides and rotate them once a month.. thats what i was told by a few people... im in the same boat i have a new set of pp 2ct just waiting to be put on but im using the last inch of my old tires for now.. my girlfriend thinks im a nutbag cuz i get them out every once in awhile and roll them around and play with them... but i love my toys sooo much!!!!!!

^Hahaha, thats great.

Yeah the most I would go is probably three years. If your not going to use them by then, just sell em. But you said one year so it looks like you'll be fine. Just put them in bags and store them in a dark place with low humidity if possible, like already mentioned.

I used an old dragon corsa that was over 3 years old stored in who knows what weather.

Still gripped better then a PP but it did feel hard

Edit: I removed this tyre ASAP as it was unpredictable

Dunlop once came out and stated that their supersport tires can be kept in proper storage for 5 years before use.

Personally, I will not mount any tire that is more than 2 years from date of manufacture.

To add to Steve's post above, this is what the date code looks like (photo lifted from: http://www.dansmc.com/tires1.htm
