I can't believe some people have thousands of miles on their bikes and are doing their 2nd oil change. :scratch

My 2nd oil change comes at 100 miles...right after i hit 8k or so RPM.

Anyway, i use Rotella for the first 600 miles for the same reasons Zaxos stated. There is no sense in spending big money on oil when it will only be in there for a few hours or so.

Then i go full synthetic Amsoil at 600 miles.
+ 1 exactly what I do.

amsoil 10w40 and oem filter for this guy.

it's already been said, but i'm going to say it again anyway. you pretty much can't go wrong, as long as you get motorcycle specific oil.
YES, but it also depends on where you live??? The same oil you would use in the US may not necessarily be good for me down under!! Winter here barely reaches 50F during the day... :lol

well now you're talking different WEIGHTS of oil, not just brand.
hotter temperature makes the oil thinner, in which case it would be smarter to go with a thicker oil. but that's not necessarily always the case, since the bikes cooling system does a pretty good job of keeping the engine below 220F in just about every type of weather. the highest temp i've ever heard of (on a properly running cooling system) is 228F. and even then i'm pretty sure they were using 10w40.

Stock oem oil filter
Spectro 4 regular conventional 10w-40 oil

I changed the oil at 600 miles and at 3,600. My next change was at 6,000 since it was about 12 months (every year or 3k miles, which ever comes first).

Now you have to seperate True Synthetics from Faux Synthetics and Petroleum oils.

Going to to high a viscosity oil does no good if not required. It will cause higher oil temps, a loss of HP and/or a loss of fuel mileage. If using a Petroleum oil above 95 Degrees F Ambient Temp, or sustained High Speed Driving in hot temps, it MAY be prudent to use a 20W-50.

If using a True Synthetic Such as AMSOIL or Mobil MX4T, there is no need to go to a Higher Viscosity oil regardless of Temps.. Run what the OEM call for with these oils..
