Hey all,
My 2003 GSXR 750 has issue starting up when not warmed up. Here is what happens

1) turn ignition (can hear pump starting to pump gas and then stop)
2) start the engine - it starts up and died right away
3) start engine again (at this point it runs just fine and sits warming up).

For whatever reason i have to start it up twice every single time. It never starts and keeps running from the first try. On the second start when the engine actually catches - it runs at proper RPMs for cold engine and then drops off a bit to lower idling RPM.

Otherwise the bike and the engine runs like a champ.

Any ideas what's going on and how to fix it? :scratch

The plugs should be good, I've replaced them not too long ago.

No choke (this is FI ) so the computer should adjust fuel/air ration on start - there is no dedicated choke lever.

Battery is good - never had an issue with it. It cranks fine.

It's not annoying, just kind of embarrassing actually. I keep my bike in top shape - always clean, lubed, and well taken care of. But it never starts from first try as if i abused or neglected it.

As i said - On initial start- it catches and fires up, but dies instantly, then right after when i start it again - it catches and runs as if nothing is wrong with it - smooth, proper RPM, no misfiring or rough running. But always takes two attempts.

sorry..my 2002 FI has a choke..and SOMETIMES needs it..but since everything is perfect with your bike i don't know what to say to help

I have an 01 same deal:cheers

This is a hugely common standard operating procedure for the (01-03) bikes with the electronic fuel injection. I used to wonder the same thing when it started happening to me. But now I wouldn't know what to do with myself if it started up on the first try. At least it consistently starts on the second attempt! :)

your 2k2 has a choke (fast idle) lever??
My '02 doesn't...
