Just sold my K1 1000 for the K8 1000. I had 29,533 miles on it, and she still ran like a champ. I used MOTUL semi-sny oil every 3000 miles and everything was fine. The only thing maintenance wise I really spent money on was tires. Two to three sets a year, but I guess that because my cruising was always a little higher than 4-5K rpms.

and the ass hat says - gay post

if you've got 30k miles and want to know how long other gsxr's have lasted, then so be it - but this was still gay

I didn't know you could use a filter twice. Think it still filters pretty well up to 10k or so, if you change your oil every 5 ?

most change it at 3 - but up to you

but depends what you are doing on your bike. I probably change my oil once a month. That is probably 500 miles at best on the oil.

But that is also probably 2-3 sprint races for that month and probably 2-3 td's.

my buddie has 65,654 on his 06 1000..................:cheers
:eek:hmy That's a lot

I'm about to hit 28k on my 06 and it's running better than ever, as long as you stay up on your scheduled maintenance you've got nothing to worry about.
Besides, there's a 99.9999% chance that your sportbike will be totaled or sold before the engine 'dies', whatever that means
:cheers

I change my oil every 2500 miles, but I don't use the ultra-premium oils either. And it's not right at 2500 either. When I see 2500 on the clock, I just head to the store to get some and change it when I get a chance. I think I got to 3160 once, but most the time it's between 2500 and 3000. Is it a waste of money.... I don't think so. My grandpa owned a service garage for a long time. He had an old suburban with 360,000 miles on it before a drunk driver hit him and totaled it. His belief was "keep it clean inside and out, and it will last". I think there's truth to that. However, todays oils don't break down like they used to. I'll up my oil change costs by 30%. No big deal, Rotella isn't that expensive and filters are $6. My 05 has 13,500 on the clock.
i was taught that oil is the life blood of an engine, get a build up of condensation inside a motor from it not running hot enough[cold weather]
the water mixxes with the oil and its milky and useless,so it should be changed more often ,iff you are in dusty conditions as air cleaner can't clean all the dust particles out you need to change more often .100,000k is quite normal in oz i know of a gs1100 shaft that did 300,000 before it was completly worn out, change filter every oil change as they can only hold
a small amount of carbon etc before they start bypassing

of coarse water and oil don't mix.

but also with heat water does evaporate and does vent through crank case and other places behind the head.

you are talking about things that are neccessary - but what is not pointed out is regular riding a bike isn't the same as a bike sitting all day in changing weather conditions where condensation can occur. Also - when we say normal oil 3000ish miles there is also OR 3months that is typically put with it.

its in the different conditions, that oil needs changing more often-bike gets ridden to and from work in cold weather only short runs that doesn't allow
water to escape,or severe conditions like track work,-ken

water can escape it vents out ;)

i watched the steam escape my bike as we did about 6 oil changes from a blown freeze plug in which the oil/radiator fluid (which was all water) mixed through my entire motor haha

My Suzuki mechanic told me when an engine reaches the 80-90K it starts to feel tired esp. with the higher revving of today's engines ...... anything after that depends on how well you exercised , and maintained her . In the owner's manual it mentions changing the oil filter every 2nd oil change ..... now if you do so or every oil change is up to you , for the price a filter is worth ......

80-90k miles?

if a gsxr has that many miles in a few years its been a cruiser and hasn't seen over 8k rpm's in the first place haha
