Hi, I'm new on this website and I own a 2000 GSX-R 750. Of course, like everybody else with this year bike, I have the 2nd gear problem. I have read the sticky on top and looked into it and I have a guy that will fix it for $800 for just labor considering he has to take apart the motor. I have read a few different post and I came upon this product called the Factory Pro Detent Star. The people who used this said they took out the clutch basket or something like that and replaced their oem detent star with the factory pro one and it fixed the 2nd gear problem. My bike rides in second gear until about 6k rpm then it skips or jerks for a second and either keeps going or pops out of gear. If anybody has any information about this "detent star", please let me know. I could save a lot of money! =)

the star is a general upgrade that helps shifting more than anything else. newer bikes have a detent that is similiar. it doesnt hold your bike in gear any better than a stock one.
I have an 03 750 that I am going to install the shift star on soon. I don't have the 2nd gear problem, but my bike always gave me a bad feeling, non positive feel going into 5th gear,(which led to many botched shifts) I heard the shift star will improve this. It does not look too tricky to install, but you have to remove the clutch basket which requires an impact wrench. If you type factory pro shift star into google, an install how to comes up in google books.

factory pro sells different versions of it. i also believe an 03 1000 detent star is the same upgrade.

Factory Pro has a detent star for the 03/04 GSXR1000, and its DEFINITELY different than the stock 03/04 1000 star.... I know, I've put them in 2 different 1000 motors....
