Hi guys,
Have just heard of a guy / friend who was recently booked out west of Toowoomba on his GPZ. The cops booked him for excessive speed although they did not have a reading!!
They took him away in the police car and made him leave his GPZ by the side of the road - IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE !!
Needless to say - later that day when he returned, the bike had been stolen, and no insurance........what would you do if you were same siuation ? The cops wouldn't even let him ride to nearest town, nor anywhere else where they could meet him - despite having his licence etc - are they aresholes, or do ya think they may of had the bike stolen ? - I mean once they've got you - they 've got you, why put the person's property in this situation ?
Cheers Si.

Certainly make a formal complaint tio the towoomba police station. I wouldnt get aggresive (yet) but put it all in writing ASAP. If he really suspects something, he can put it to the internal investigations bit, via the police station. Dont expect anything though, 99% of complaints do not benefit the victim.

Is it reasonablly forseeabel that the bike would get stolen in that situation? Arguable.
Can they take him in? What for? Did he present a danger to the public?
Did he have ID on him?
What led them to belive he would continue driving in a dangerous manner?
How much over the limit?

Whats the situation where they do the same thing to a car and leave the car unlocked? There must be rules to cover this.

need to do some reasearch to work that one out.

thats fucked up....
when i got arrested....
they wouldnt let me move my bike off the road either....
they did however say one of them would be nice enough to move it for me....

2 minutes, 5 stalls, 1 hit of the rev-limiter and 10 metres later it was parked semi-decently....
i just stood there laughing quietly in my handcuffs....
i fucking hate cops and my bike didnt appreciate their abuse either....

Sad truth to the matter is that they can do it. They would have arrested him, asked him to secure his vehicle and accompany them to the nearest station. A couple of years back when the NSW RTA used to leave cars all over the Freeway between Sydney-Newcastle, a guy from my college unit at Uni. got pinged medium range DUI after being pulled for speeding late in the evening. "Lock her up come with us", and he tried to argue with them as well to move it off the freeway or get it towed cause he knew what would happen to it. He had a WB V8 ute with a bit of money wasted or should I say invested into it. Anyway he was between Gosford and Sydney so they took him to Sydney which was were the patrol car had come out of. They ran him through the paper work and he got a couple friends from Uni to come down and pick him up with the intention of one of them driving it home. I'll leave it as their intention as it wasn't there when they got back. He was screaming foul play and shit but he never got anywere with it.

1. This story seems to lack a bit of detail to make a true judement.
2. Do you really think the cops would do that and then organise to have the bike stolen? I know there are corrupt cops but that seems a little far fetched(not impossible but still far fetched)
3. you don't have to have a radar reading to get booked - if they follow you and match your speed, they can book you. Traffic cops can also book you based on what they saw you doing, that is they can make a judgement on how fast you were going
4. How fast was he really doing - must have been very excessive to get arrested. Therefore, if you get booked for doing say 180 in a 100 zone, do you really expect them to say 'hey get back on your bike and ride to the nearest town, we trust you'

I have to agree. Although he may have a civil case if he can argue that the bike was not secure, and there is a reasonable possibility that it could be stolen. When i was hit by a car, the cops payed to have my bike towed while i went to the hospital.

Generally in NSW cops are unlikely to pull you over without a radar fix, unless you going EXTREMELY fast. Two mates got pulled over and let off with a warning when doing 180+kph coming in toward Cooma from Brown Mountain. They passed a cop becoming the other way between two cars. The cop turned and chased, they didnt slow down but didnt run either. They got grilled but let off. Obviously if the cop had a radar fix he would have booked them. Another friend got booked nearby later the same day doing 140.

As I said before - I did not all of the full story - the reason he was arrested was because his licence details did not match up. He was pulled for speeding and THEN arrested because of a licence issue - BUT after they got to the station it turns out that Transport Dept had sent his licence renewal to an old address - he did legit not know his lcence had expired.....Have no idea what speed he was doing to justify the pull to start with - I just know that it's a fuggin unlucky situation, one I would NOT like to be in.......Cheers Si.

i got arrested for 182 in an 80....
they just dropped me back off at my bike and i rode home....
kept riding while waiting to go to court and even picked up a 30-45km/hr+....
guess i was just lucky they didnt take my licence on the night of the offence....

Did anyone check the ditch by the road to see if it had been kicked in? That's what I'd do if I saw a GPZ parked by the road

one of my best mates had one of them until the engine shat itself, i rode got to ride it a few times before that happened and i must say it wasn't the smoothest ride in the world. the thing felt like it was going to fall apart it had so many rattles and weird noises coming out of it
