Just wondering what kinds of strategies etc , old school riders use to avoid getting their bike stolen. Especially guys in Australia. I am new to teh forum and reading all the stolen bike post really getting me worried.
:rolleyes

No good advice from me. My K6 thou was stolen from the city (sydney) despite heaps of passing pedestrians and an alarmed dics lock. Id never worried very much about theft on friday/saturday nights in the city before that. Now i only take my 250 commuter into the city.

... and i keep things low key around home, so a minimum of people are aware of the bikes in my garage. Im a bit paranoid now.

Old school?? :scratch:shifty Who you calling old school?

I picked up a Scorpio alarm for $660au with remote immobiliser, motion sensor, shock sensor, low battery+ battery tamper sensor. All very user friendly and simple to fit. Came with a small key chain remote with screen. Its powerful enough to transmit from my bike to my office when parked 1block away and 13stories up, if someones tampering with it etc. I can send signals back the bike from there to. Had it for 9months and had no issues yet

Prior to the alarm I'd fit an alarmed disc lock to the front and titanium bike chain to the rear every time I parked, when at my old home the was bolted deep into the drive, havent gotten around to that since moving.

Sydney's got a pretty bad amount of car thefts, I don't feel comfortable leaving the bike anywhere overnight even with the alarm, though without it I know I'd have sleepness nights.

A good mate of mine had his bike stolen from the back of his driveway 20mins after getting home from a ride with us, they probably had his place cased but the bike went even with the alarmed disc lock on and him just upstairs from it. After hearing this I went and got the alarm.

P.s. another riding mate of mine had his Yoshi slip on stolen from inside his alarmed lock up in his apartment complex. Reckons they cut through the mesh and unbolted it inside a 20min window between trips to and from garage.

Has had me paranoid about my slipon's ever since.

Shit, which area was this? thats some scary shit right there.Guess one of the best peace of mind would be to have theft insurance. Thanks for the info mate.

I gave up worrying about it, at the end of the day if someone wants your bike, they will pull up in a van/pick up, and load it up in 10 seconds flat.
I hate leaving my bike anywhere, if I have to leave it then I will chain it to something heavy, but this doesn't stop them from taking bits off of it.
I would save the money you would spend on an alarm and put it towards a good insurance policy, and pray that the thieving scum leave it alone, f*ing b@stards.
