i went down 2 in the front on my 2005 750 and now my gears are not in the same place???

This makes no sense. You may need to adjust where you installed the lever, as in the position is all.
that is the most confusing thing i've heard.
your gears don't change "place"
for one, down 2 is pretty crazy but from 17 to 15 that isn't any more of an angle a 600 makes going down 1. and I was -1+1 on my 750 and thought -1+2 would of been fine too. So on that end you'd be fine riding it IMO.
If you mean your shifter is messed up, that is YOU. Adjust it correctly. More then likely you put it on higher up and more lvl with the ground. Which will cause you grief trying to shift
