My mate here in the UK has just brought a CBR600 FH 1987 Jelly mould one. This is his learning bike. Well he got it for ÂŁ600 but its not to pritty but when we go for a ride out, boy does he give it some to keep up with us.

My watercooled GSXR750 blows him away at top end and past 3rd gear but around town he keeps up with me. Ya he has to work harder than me but its a 600.
I would recommend a CBR600 if its going to be your learning bike. (his bike is stuck together with Plastic ties and Superglue from the amount of drops its had). the cost to run his to mine is also much much cheaper.

Don't touch the KAT! Have GSXR600 or CBR! thats my 2 pence worth! good luck.

No I've been reading your replies and they've been a lot of help in my decision. I think that it's going to be a great first bike and I can't wait to start riding.

Thanks a lot for the advice

theres an old saying......... "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink",

all I can say is we tried to tell him but it's his money and he's going to do what he wants with it.........

who knows what he'll do with the bike...keep it.....sell it.....whatever....but we're all here to help each other out and meet new people along the way.....what's done is done...he bought the bike already...how quick is he gonna be able to turn around and sell it again after reading all the responses on this post?....he will still learn the basics of riding with this bike and eventually move up a notch or two when he's ready...remember he bought the bike because there was something about it he apparently liked...we're here to advise him of what the bike can and cannot do....

i concur... its good learning bike, im happy for him..

Some of you guys are making it sound llike if he sits on the Kat it will explode. cmon, get real. It is a good learning bike and is as safe as any sport-tourer in that class, especially if its mostly stock, and hasnt been in the hands of some wanna-be mechanic.

For the money....it's the WRONG bike to buy!.If you guys won't say that then I give up.That's my point and anyone that knows anything about sportbikes would agree.
Pricing is a tad on the high side at $1800 but not unreasonable for a bike in good shape that's ready to go (chain, brake-pads, tires, etc).

...I guess I dunno anything about sportbikes.

i get your point it being the wrong bike if one was to buy a new one at 6 k but 1800 or less is not bad for a beginner and imo will allow him to find his feet, drop it and fix it at no unreal shocking cost thats up in the clouds. so cut the guy some slack
