What are the pro's and con's of each?

I am looking to buy a Joe Roket Blaster Jacket and I am not sure which one to get.

With perforated you can allways put on more clothes if it gets colder. With non perforated it's kind of hard to punch holes in it on a hot day.

I bought the same jacket in perforated. I am in Florida though and since the weather here is warmer more than it is cold I figured it was better to go this route. I don't know what the summer months are like in Maine, but you can always add something underneath if it is too cold. I bought a long sleeve turtleneck looking shirt off the internet that is made of this Goretex material that completely stops the wind for $70. I put that on underneath for winter riding and I have no problems!

winter....hahaha. Come try Cleveland and I'll show ya winter riding. 5F today, and I rode. I prefer nonperf myself, but that is just me.

I have the perforated Blaster jacket here in Hawaii and have had no problems with it. It's comfortable when I'm moving and like anything else, hot while stuck in traffic. It also comes with a zip-in liner for when it gets cooler.

perforated leathers are better than the joe rocket or fieldsheer mesh jackets. they would offer you better protection.
If you are interested im selling a Teknic Violator Perforated leather jacket brand spanking new!!
I take a 52-54US size jacket. I have broud shoulders. Also the jacket I get will be completely black.

i've been wondering, does anyone have any experience going down with a perforated jacket? do they hold up as well as the non-perforated jackets? for comparison's sake assume the same type and style of jacket is offered in perf and non-perforated, which would you rather have for protection's sake?

basically, is there a comfort/protection tradeoff in going with perforated leathers?

Good question I would like to know this too.

goin down on a perforated jacket is not a good idea. one of my friends last summer, went down on one of those joe garbage phoenix jackets and lets just say thank god he's still alive. the jacket was completely destroyed!!
As for the leather jackets, they would hold up better than the all perforated ones.
I went down on my Dainese goin over a 100+ and im still here!! little banged up,but still here. My arai and my dainese i believe made a big part in it. The dainese i had was not perforated.

A few months ago I had a minor incident where I laid down the bike in a perforated leather jacket. There was some wear on my left elbow from where I dragged it, but it didn't seem like the jacket was coming apart or anything. I'm sure that the holes do compromise the ability of the leather to stretch without tearing a little bit, but I don't think that would come into play in most accidents. I think it would be a lot more dangerous to pass out or get dizzy from heat stroke (if you live in a place like Phoenix for example).

The pro road racers wear perforated so I assume it holds up pretty good. Of course thiers are custom made, probably thicker than ours and only have to last for 1 crash since they don't pay for them (must be nice).

The JR Phoenix jacket is a mesh jacket which is different from a perforated leather jacket. I've seen people go down in perforated leather before and it held up just fine. In fact, if you look at the full suits the pro racers wear, most of them have suits that are primarily perforated leather. IMO, the perforation provides substantial ventilation and comfort with no sacrifice in safety.

Perforated leather is the only way to go. I don't trust the mesh jackets. My JT Highside suit is perforated, and I never had a problem, after 7 crashed (5 on the track 2 Street) I would not really concern myself with Perf vs. Non-Perf, but go with a jacket that fits and had the right stuff for you.. Even with a Perf suit, on the street I use a backpack with a water hydration system in it. You tend to sweat a bit..
