If anyone knows about tickets, it's me. ALWAYS fight a ticket. Start off with what was said earlier in the thread, a written declaration. The cop then has to also submit his written declaration and the judge reviews both of them. Now this is the thing, the cops half the time are too lazy to do it, and you automatically win the case. Now if the cop decides to send his side in as well, and the judge finds you guilty.. it's okay, you get a second chance. It's called a trial de novia or some shit I forget the name off. But basically you have 20 days after being found guilty to submit this new trial form, which basically means you go into court in front of the judge with the cop as well. Now again, if the cop doesn't show up, you win. But here, you can explain your case better and have another chance of getting off.
I'll tell you what, I had my bike impounded for doing a wheelie, and that was 2 points on my record, added onto the 1 point I already had on. Therefore, 1 more ticket and I would have my license suspended because they were all within 1 year. This is the funny part, I got the warning letter from the DMV stating this, but I had 3 more tickets PENDING.. haha I thought I was fkd for sure. 2 of the tickets the cops didn't even send in their written declaration, so I had 1 more to take care of before I was in the clear. Of course this one the cop decided to send his in, and I was found guilty. I then requested a trial de nova or whatever it's called, and I got in front of the judge with the cop. It's all big english test when you're up there, make sure you say the right things and get the cop to say something wrong, and you're golden. Thank God that is what happened, what I had told the judge, the cop didn't remember so he couldn't provide the proper response and so on.
So, it works :cheers
