Hello to all, I was wonder if I could get some help with picking a new motorcycle. I started out last season on a sv650 after completing the MSF course. I have clocked apprx. 8,000 miles over the last two years. I'm 27 years old, 240llbs, and stand about 5'7- 5'8. Not out of shape. Ex-football player turned coach. I'm trying to decide what my next bike will be (probably to start next season)? If you guys/gals could give your views/opinions on me being ready or not for a gsxr 600, 750, or a 1000?Wondering if the 600 would have the horsepower and torque to satisfy me for more than 2 seasons? How much experience is needed to handle the 1000? Thanks in advance!
 
if you've never been on the track before,

get the 600 and take it to the track. you'll learn a ton and be scared shitless of the power that bike can put down through the corners.

my personal opinion is to start on a 600 or less.
clock some serious track time, and if you still feel so inclined, then upgrade to a 1000.

you only use about 30% of these bikes' performance/handling/braking abilities on the street. just b/c ur confident on the street on, say a 600 or 1000, doesn't mean you'll be able to handle it on the track.
so don't jump up to a 1000 yet. your throttle control and ability to process information at very high rates of speed and react accordingly are limited from your experience.

a 600 will have more than enough power to satisfy you. just focus on cornering and not straightline speed (which is boring as hell).

I have to say I agree about 100% with this statement. If you are looking to drag race people from lights, and like highway cruising, then maybe the 1000 is for you, otherwise, take the advice in the prior post.
 
I'll go a slightly different way... The 650 is a pretty beefy bike... Even though the breaks and stuff are a little tamer, most people that haven't been on one would never guess at the power one can lay down. From the SV to a Sixxer is a big leap, don't get me wrong, but if I were you, I'd go for the 750... Unless your spending a lot of timeon the track, the 1k will be a waste, in fact, at most tracks it's STILL a waste... The 750 will get you plenty of extra punch and keep your ass grinning from ear to ear for years to come.

Do you find yourself running out of R's in mid corner? If not I'd say stick with what you got. Upgrade the brakes and suspension. The SV is a wicked thrill.:punk
 
I'd say go for the 750 or 1000. A lot of people say its too much power, which it can be, but thats if you ride it to the extreme all the time or drive crazy. I love that I can cruise at low rpms and have ample power to suite my needs....in my friends k6 600 it feels very sluggish at low rpms.

Now if you love curves and lots of track time im sure you will be fine with the 600

AV FAN~ Love your car, just got rid of my 05 G35 coupe last november, im SOOOO regretting it!
 
I have to agree with the above post, at least get the 750 bro, my second bike was a R1 (1000) and it to me was easier to ride then my 750. That being said that I didnt run it wide open and crap all the time, ya just didnt need to have it up in the rpms to have power!!! which to me was easier to ride.. So get what you want and remember you control the throttle!! :D
