I've got about 1100 miles on my 06 600, at 575 I changed the oil, checked the throttle play and adjusted the clutch lever. My dealer wanted $250 bucks for the check up...250 bucks for oil, a filter and 30 mins of your time?? I said wtfbbq no...Ill do it my self.

So my friend just hit 600 on his and took his in because he has a short somewhere, they are doing the whole service along with the warranty work. He told me they are boring is throttle body or something like that, sounds fishy to me, but I wanted to make sure that there isnt more to the first service that I'm missing? I know the first miles of a bikes life dictate its longevity more than anything else (squid/noob moves outstanding), so should I take it in to get serviced, or is there anything else I missed?

TIA.

BTW Any of you guys ride the 91 fwy in Cali? I coulda swore I saw a gixxer with a Gixxer.com sticker on it today.

The dealership I went to said just to take it in and they'll do the check up on it and the oil change if I don't want to do it myself. If I do the oil change (which I do) they wont charge me anything for checking it out. So I would have to say that there isn't anything too important that has to be done. I have over 1100 miles on my bike right now. Changed the oil at 400 miles, then again at 1000. Still haven't takin it to the dealer cause I really don't feel the need to, although someday I might if I happen to be over there with nothin to do.

if you get suzuki oil and filter it should run you no more than 30.00 they should only charge you .5 hour on labor. @ our shop thats 32.50 so you do the math. adjusting the chain and what not should be included in the service.

I am not sure if our experience was an anomalie or not, but when we just took the wifes 750 in for the 600 mile maintenance, it seriously needed a mechanic to look at it. The valves were way out of adjustment, the throttle bodies had to be resynced, he actually had to adjust the clutch internally...I'm glad I bought the warranty and took it in free of charge!!! Already, I've saved the cost of the warranty.

umm, wouldn't that stuff be covered under the normal warranty, or am I missing something?
The normal warrenty doesnt cover the maintence and service. It doesnt on most cars either except the service intervals are at much higher mileage gaps and are equily as expensive if not more.

Some dealerships sell discounted "pre-paid" regular service. IE: All of your oil changes and regular maintnence paid for in advance. All you pay for otherwise is the oil and filter. (Or was it just the oil? I dont remember what they said.) If you do your own maintnence this isnt necessary but if you'd rather the dealership do it all, it may be worth the money.

shit 2 of buddies bought an 06 from a dealership and they told them 1000 miles before they come in

my dealership was on 2week behind and i was not going stop riding my bike so i have about 800 miles

and another one of my buddies has 1700 on his bike and has not even changed the oil

im with you man, my dealership told me not to come in till around 1000 miles, i havnt had the oil changed either, but luckily it has been raining here for the past week and a half so i havnt been able to ride it, but im taking it to a shop to have the oil changed on it asap now...i hope that doesnt void the warrenty from suzuki:confused

ive actually got yall all topped im in the service and really havent had the time to take it in. . i just made a appointment to get it service i have around 2800 miles on it. .so hopefully my dumb decision didnt hurt me in the end

my dealership actually told me to come in around +700 miles.
he said (and don't quote me because I was kinda like yeah right at the time) something to the effect of seeing riders coming in early and getting service and everything hasn't set yet. they would then not come back or change their oil again until the 4000 mile or 12 mo. mark at which point damage may have been done and the warrenty has expired.

what branch are you in? Army?

My dealer told me that if you don't get your bike serviced at 600 miles by an authorized Suzuki dealer it voids the factory warranty, any service after that makes no difference if you or the dealer does it.

I paid for my service up front already. And those that have waited to get it service have you even read your manuals? This is from the manual "The first 800km (500 miles) is the most important in the life of your motorcycle. Proper operation during this break-in period will help assure maximum life and performance from your new motorcycle." I don't know about the rest of you but I trust the engineers at suzuki they know more than I do.

And we all know dealers ALWAYS no what they're talking about and never never feed you any bullsh*t. Especially when that bullsh*t increases their profits... Unless ofcourse the dealer posted this info somewhere online, because then it'd have to be true.

My thoughts exactly... Mine is at 452 miles exactly and my next ride will be to the dealership for service and to fix this CEL / FI problem causing reduced performance.

It's not true, just keep your receipts from when you buy the oil and filter. Also, you can make a little log book that shows what you did to it at what date.
that is correct as long as you keep records of what you did it will not void your warranty.
