Hello fellow riders,

I have a K6 GSX-R1000 and I recently bought a brand new (used) M4 black GP style pipe. I really like the Yoshimura TRC, and from my understanding it is a bit quieter than the loud M4 I have. A guy is selling a Yoshi pipe that fits the 2007 and up GSX-R models. He said it is a TRC and fits '06 GSX-R1000, but that is a lie. Is there any reason I should not buy this? Would it absolutely not work, it isn't advisable, or would it be a headache? I have been searching the web daily for a decently priced Yoshi in good shape, but they are hard to find.

Thanks,
Phillip

As far as I know, except for the very rare true race mufflers, all Yosh mufflers have a 2¼" inlet I.D. (57.15 mm). For example, my K6 has an R77 muffler with a TRC midpipe (1116-435, also used tor TRS and R22). It fits so well that I've never understood why Yosh doesn't sell that combination, i.e. no new parts are needed. Yosh Japan could be different. The K7 pipes are different because of the cat converter and dual exhaust. Or are you talking about full exhausts instead of slip-ons?

Beware that many of the used carbon Yosh mufflers on ebay are crash takeoffs and generally junk.

Where did you purchase the TRC midpipe? It is a slip on in great condition. For over a week I have been monitoring Craigslist and ebay trying to find a Yosh pipe and find nothing but junk. This guy is listing it as an '06 Yosh pipe. I plan to buy it if I can get it for a decent price.

It was five to six years ago on ebay. Here's a thread about it. The picture won't display here any more. Here it is: http://oi50.tinypic.com/2iqdcnm.jpg

The R77 was never offered for the K5/K6 so I don't know what your seller is talking about. It was made in 12 and 14 inch shell lengths. The 12 inch was used on 600/750 and 1000's with dual exhaust. The 14 inch was on single exhaust 1000's and Hayabusa's. The one in your pic is a 14 inch. I've been curious about how much louder the 12 inch would be on a 1000. Since then they've offered several variants with things like dual outlets and a permanently installed db killer. Also somewhere along the line they changed the outlet from a straight pipe to one that flares out near the end.

However little, if any, of that applies to the TRC. I assume that Yosh still sells the 1116-435 midpipe, but for a lot more than ebay or Craigslist. You might also look on the WERA classifieds.

I see! Thanks for the input. It has been done before so that is nice to know. If the price stays low I may buy it and do the work to get it to fit. It is clearly possible. The condition of that Yosh is just too good to pass up on. I would buy it now, but I don't have that much extra cash I want to spend on it before selling my current pipe. I think I will try and look around for a midpipe and see what I can do. It looks like some midpipes are offered, but more of the generic cheap universal kind.

So that auction is coming to a close and I am considering buying it. It is a 57.5 and not 51 mm? I am seeing a lot of 51 midpipes but no 57.5.

51.5 may refer to the front of the midipe, not the back where the muffler connects. Yoshimura used to list the R77 muffler in their replacement parts section and it was described as 2¼" inlet. But not any more.

Thanks Bill! It was slightly above what I was willing to pay, but he has relisted it because the buyer didn't follow through I guess. If it is in my price range I will probably buy it and sell my M4 pipe because it is a tad bit too loud.

The pipe diameter at the head is larger on the 07. I have a brand new ti exhaust I cannot use as it won't fit.

Also, they changed the oil pan in 07, so unless you swap to the 07 oil pan and pickup the header will interfere with the pan

Here's a bit more on R77 variations. I'd be most interested in determining if the one that you're looking at has a non-removable insert. The seller ought to know if you can't tell from his pics.

I'd been looking for a used 12 inch muffler to try versus my current 14 inch. But I wasn't willing to pay more than $100 and it had to be in good condition. I very occasionally found them on craigslist but they were always for pickup only. So it never worked out.
