what\'s faster \'98 750 or 89 7/11? (straightline)

so my brother's building a 7/11 and we're having this argument about who'll be quicker in a straight line. He thinks an old 1100 motor in an '89 750 frame will be faster than my 98 750. What do you guys think?

Your 98 should be faster on the proviso that both are stock motors. 11 motors of that era tend to be modded a bit. Between the gears it should be close but top end the 98 should win...

My old 7/11 was really fast, but point-to-point I am quicker on my SRAD.

Combination of better handling, sweeter power delivery, and more fairing to tuck behind.

7/11's can be brutal, mine had about 140rwhp, and I spent a lot of cash on brakes and suspension, still did not handle as well as my SRAD though.

Could be an interesting "race"

(Reasonant's brother)

Well, I know that it is no competition from point to point if there are corners involved (based on same riding skills) but, I'm pretty sure that if it is from a rolling start (straight line) from say...40MPH, than I will take him. This is from the torque alone. He has weight advantage, I have torque advantage, by the time aerodynamics come into play, I'm hoping to be far too gone for him to reel me in.

Standing start, no competition. I will burn him and leave him so fast.
That is rider skill 1.8 60' time first time out on a bone stock bike.
To his 2.?

Hey resonant,
we never did hook up last year! Maybe I can be a spectator when it comes time to test out your bro's ride.

My money is on your bike coming out on top.

RESONANT...
I drive a 750SRAD & I love her, but brother an 1100!? Do you remember the fear in which for a decade and counting that motor instills/ed!? Technology has given 750's nowadays nearly as much HP as the liter bikes of years past, but still... Number one it appears that RONNIE is better at the strip, and his 1100's less peaky power-band has at the drag an inherent advantage. He's making more hp & torque all through the rev range while the 750's power delivery is peakier & allows a smaller margin for error. And dude a 40mph roll-on, don't even try RESONANT! Ronnie is going to walk you. Second gear, side-by-side, it's all over man! I don't know about these 1.8 & 2.0 shorts though? The "95 Mustang GTS I sold to buy my gixxer has run consistently over the 6 years I owned her 13.9 1/4's w/1.9 shorts at my local track, Moroso Motorsports Park. On your bike, I'm sure you can get your shorts down to a solid 1.6 which effectively could drop your et's almost a half second. I hope these bikes haven't been relegated to the straight & narrow though!
These bikes are designed for the twisties, you know! This is gotta be just for bragging rights, correct?

I was just guessing. I've never brought my bike to the strip so I really didn't know what good shorts are. What did she end up running?

Bragging rights is correct.

1.6 shorts on a stock 750 oil cooled swingarm will prolly be impossible.

Good short time on the pony though. It's going to be hard to do that on a stock suspension bike. Stretch it, get some dogs, than maybe if I'm a prostar, which I'm not.

So we will see.
