Hope you SRAD brotheren don't mind a question from an old watercooler, hey we're all gixxers at the end of the day right?

Okay here is a topic that should raise some debate...

What oil should I assemble the engine with and run in it for break-in?

The bike was using Golden Spectro 4 Synthetic when I bought it and I am planning to continue this in the future. I have heard the old wive's tails about how if you use synthetic oil during the break-in period the rings won't seat, the new journal bearings will glaze, etc., etc., etc.

So how about it gixxers, has anyone used this oil for break-in of a new engine and had a problem?

This engine is getting reringed, new journal bearings, new cam chain, an APE manual tensioner, and reground cams.

the experts (thats not me) reccommend using the standard mineral oil for the first 1000miles. synthetic oil at this stage is too good and will polish the bores up and therefor not bed the parts in properly resulting in less performance. full performance will not happen untill a high mileage is reached.

dan is right on this one, just use regular mineral oil, or whatever suzuki says to use. just make sure you get the right weight

then go for synthetic after shes completely broken in!!

good luck!

I have used both and have seen nothing different about the two...

If it was such a problem for you use a syn oil durring break in, why would it come from the factory in cars... also... I think it is triumph (sp) that uses syn oil from the factory as well..

If you go to Mobil1.com there is a long FAQ about it...

but mobil's website jus MIGHT cater towars the consumer buyin their most expensive product, rather than the cheapie stuff.....more than likely, runnin synth wont hurt, but since its only for break-in go with what u r most confortable with..........

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I can agree with this... There is a lot of talk about this... and I have seen motors that are broke in with both and I have yet to see any difference in them.... Now this is from the inside of the motor... I have not seen them on a dyno... but when you think about it... there is nothing that would be hurt from it...
