See if y’all can solve me this:
Cleaned carbs.. great.
the FLOOD began. Initial thoughts. Needle seat o rings? Needle seats didn’t “click” when I forcefully pressed em back in...ok
Didn’t adjust my floats at all. Could be it... BUT leaning towards other things BECAUSE— it hydrolocked, I removed plugs, flushed it out etc. no internal damage because it ran like a gem when I started it up again. IT RAN WELL WITH THE PETCOCK OFF. I TURN IT ON WHILE ITS ON... Boom flooded bogs out. Probably would hydrolock again!
what do you guys/gals think??
I won’t give up until this thing runs well.

Keep in mind that this model has a fuel pump built into the bottom of the gas tank. That adds another element to the simple broken petcock problem. What do you think?
Well aware of pump fitment ( own 3 srads ). If the petcock is working no fuel can flow when not running or being turned over. If the petcock allows too much fuel in it floods\hydro locks etc. Petcock is a cheap fix\ or check its functioning properly.

Okay. Thank you for input. OEM PETCOCK is much different and more $$ than the generic red twist that I have currently from other owners.
so you’re thinking the PETCOCK isn’t working properly thus the over supply of fuel? This may show my lack of experience but wouldn’t the float needles be able to counteract the excess fuel.. if that were the scenario?

Another clarification that might make a difference. The PETCOCK when turned off does a great job of stopping fuel from passing through it. Would you still suspect it be that with that said? Thanks

you have no choice other than to pull the rack again and check EACH o-ring, seat and tap to make sure they are 100% perfect, see if you can find titanium needle points as apposed to the rubber style, something in the gas eats the rubber away and they fail horribly

THEN you must check float heights and nail them to perfection, make sure each float floats by weighting it and submerging it in gas for an hour or so, remove and shake, any thing inside it?

then petcock, is it working 100%, got the hole lined up? is it installed correctly... go over your related work make sure nothing was missed. all you can do..

I'd check the build of the carbs make sure nothing was missed putting them back together

ordered new seat o rings. Viton 6mmID x2mm. Believe that’s correct size. Let me know if you have info off the top of your head. Appreciate this help more than u realize.
as far as petcock goes... look at what I sent sradmad600 earlier in this thread. Pretty much a lawn mower style. Don’t think that had a diaphragm to create vacuum.. what do you think? Seems like junk that could be causing the flooding perhaps. I went and ordered an original petcock.

when you say tap each needle seat o ring what do you mean. Thanks for the knowledge

if it were mine and I had a few bucks I would go to ronayers and buy the stock fuel line and clamps, vacuum line for the petcock, and get a stock rebuild kit for a stock petcock, rebuild it.. ditch that aftermarket stuff.. like you say it may be allowing too much flow, too much pressure and its over riding the float shut offs?

last thing you want tho is to be riding on a hot day and have a fuel line rupture, can start a fire that's hard to put out...

I dunno the oring diameters for the fuel shut off needle seat? and not sure if I have any laying around I can measure up but ronayers sells the OEM, if push comes to shove I can go dig around and mic one up if you have local source, make sure they are chemical resistant, not just gas but chemical... as I do know the rubber tips on the needles are getting destroyed by something in the gas they produce today.. it also goes bad real fast, like 4 months, apparently the pump gives a 30 day freshness life span that's it?

could be they are desperate for money and don't want people buying it up when the price is low then storing for leaner times? maybe they put something in it that destroys it in a short period? dunno? but no chit the gas in my Busa rotted and really made the bike run very bad, didn't know what it was? I eventually drained the tank, rinsed, put in fresh, sure as sheets it ran fine after that... man it smelled bad, stunk up my shop, whole time I thought I had a sync issue as I was right in the middle of the sync process when I let it sit 4 months for covid so I could get the right size hoses then it just ran horrible when I went to get back to it..


also are you sure the float height is correct and the shut offs are functional? guess you can work you way form the tank towards the carbs? may as well get er right, ditch the lawn mower set up get it right...

Ron Ayers, partzilla, etc.. oem is so damn expensive. $60 for new needle seats. Crazy! Might wait and test out my o rings I ordered and then go from there with oem $.

you think new fuel lines from tank to petcock to carb rail is worth it? What makes the oem ones so good?

gonna adjust float height. 8mm I think is factory setting. Not super experienced doing the floats... any tips to get an accurate measure to make sure it seals right?

Cheap&nasty, does not belong on your bike. Will cause you problems. Twistedmister is also very knowledgeable on srads.
As I’m looking at this cheap petcock, it’s connecting 2 fuel lines. 1 going from fuel pump to petcock and then petcock to carb.
Is the oem petcock going to be the same attachment? Aren’t there vacuum lines involved? Thanks
