I’m sorry my 1st post has to be a ‘Help’ post, but it is what it is unfortunately.

I’ve tried decoding the Vin Number on my bike, but I’m getting nowhere. I feel I may have been scammed with my bike :(

I have a Gsxr-600 K2 2002

Is there anyone here who can please check out my Vin Number to see if it actually does relate to the bike I’ve bought?

JS1BG111100103640 please see pic, as I’m not sure if the 6 is a 0.

I was so desperate the buy the Gizzer, I stupidly failed to do checks on the bike on this occasion. So any help you guys can offer me will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

OK people, help the old, dumb moderator please. Why have I received TWO reports that this post is suspicious, potentially scammer bullshit?

As a simple Canadian country boy, I am perhaps not the most experienced with scams so:

1) let's help this new member out or
2) fill me in on what I'm not noticing so if this is bullshit, I'll take appropriate action

I think the forum is just cautious / skeptical whenever someone's 1st post is about a questionable vehicle title, the same as "my bike was stolen / recovered...how do I bypass the ignition?".

If it was mine, I would simply place a piece of paper over the Vin and shade it with a pencil...the 6 or 0 does look altered, or is it just a scratch?
I'm also curious what the issue is...the bill of sale / title doesn't match the Vin? It should have thrown up a red flag when the buyer attempted to register / insure it etc?

This VIN plate is on top of a rug. Clearly looks tampered with. Take and post a photo of the VIN # on the frame and/or engine as these numbers are coming up with nothing. # match with the title?

I just see the VIN plate on what looks to me to be an aluminum frame? If you already bought it, were you able to transfer it under your name?

Yeah, I remember waaaaay back when I was a noob here, I posted such a thread and was met with much doubt / skepticism from the community. My buddy and I were prepping for a track day and wanted to go pick up his K4 750 track whore, which was at our mechanic's, who was in the hospital. So my buddy's bike was easily accessible outside but we had no way to get the key, hence my post.

Long story short, my buddy scanned local classifieds and just bought a second K4 750 track whore so we could make our track day lol

The VIN seems to be in the ballpark. Here's a K1 600 that's JS1BG111200101017. You'll have to get a specialist or the authorities involved to say more as I have limited knowledge of EU VINs. That "6" looked like it could also be an "8".

Thanks to everyone who has replied, I genuinely appreciate it. I’m sorry I haven’t replied sooner, as I’ve had family problems.

Reading all your replies, I can assure y’all that I’m not a scammer, and not out to scam or harm anyone. The truth is, I feel like a complete idiot for buying this bike tbh, as I’ve done a check, and there also seems to be a discrepancy with the mileage too :/ I should have done a check before buying the bike, but I was too excited, and the seller seemed like a wonderful man, and he sold me the bike from his home. So I trusted him, and now I know that may have been a huge mistake! I’m sorry I’m not as savvy as you guys are, I wish I was. I made a mistake I think, and don’t know what to do now. This is my 1st big bike too, and I feel absolutely gutted that I probably have been conned.

My partner used to deal with this kinda thing for me, but he’s not here anymore, so I just took a leap of faith, and just went for it. I know i shouldn’t have, but I know it sounds silly to most, but when I seen the bike, I was just in awe of it,. And when I took a for a test ride, I thought I just gotta have this bike. I genuinely don’t know what to do now, as the bikes just sitting at my property not being used,

I only asked about the VIN number cause I told a friend of mine about the bike I bought, and she asked me did I do any checks. So I checked the VIN online, and I couldn’t get anything from it. I then panicked and posted here. I’m so so sorry that some think my post is a scam post, cause I’m really not trying to scam anyone. I’m just a stupid girl who bought with her heart and not with her brain. I just seen the bike through rainbow coloured glasses that’s all it is.

I can’t get anything from the VIN, and not to sound like a bigger idiot than I already do, where else on the bike can I find any other serial numbers etc, so I can see if anything matches the VIN?

To tell you the truth, I was afraid to reply after reading my post was reported as a scam. I’d never scam anyone, I’m just not like that. Is there anything I can do to make yall Believe I’m a genuine person who has maybe been a lil naive?

Anyhow, for what it’s worth, here’s a pic of my bike.

Thanks to everyone who replied, stay safe and love to y’all

Nice bike. A few too many stickers for me. peel off the plastic film that is on the vin tag. Check the frame for a vin number. Maybe someone here knows where that might be located but I bet you can find it if you look.

Sharp eye Dave.

Don't UK bikes have to be regularly inspected by the MOT and don't they keep records, including the mileage? There ought to be a serial number stamped on the engine, probably on the rear just ahead of the rear shock. But it won't tell you a lot other than if the engine is correct for the bike unless you take the time to get VIN #s and serial numbers from other K2 600's and see if they follow the same sequence. I think the serial number for a K2 600 should be something like N723-1xxxxx or N725-1xxxxx.

You have an Akrapovic decal but what appears to be a Yoshimura muffler.

welp, the year is correct, the era at least, far as milage is it that much?

I wouldn't be too depressed these are extremely good motorbikes and the finish has been protected with stickers, once those are all carefully removed it appears as if it's a pretty nice bike really..

if you're worried there is foul play in ownership or VIN numbering take it to your MOT or police ask them to sort it..

far as I can tell it's the right year, how's it run and ride? in my experience if it checks out and is not stolen one rides the wheels off those bikes..

if you didn't pay more than say $4k in this environment and it runs well and rides well i'd say score, very nice bikes indeed..

install a set of frame sliders, maybe axle sliders, wheel stand bungs and its on..

I dig that gen, last of the mohicans...

There should be a vin number on the motor also perhaps clear and that six could be an 0 an 8 at this point hell even a 9 lol

Best not to show your number plates or your vin number on any media. The Scammers we talk about, are everywhere. Go into your post and backspace through these.
Guys aren't immune from being scammed by a pretty face, too you know.
Don't go near the cops ever !!! They wont help, and may arrest you for smiling ( It's a Guy Thing).
Some light reading for you here.
Good luck. (y)
