how do i choose shims for the valve job.... i have several valves were the clearance is borderline of spec. does the space shrink over time or increase over time? should i get the thickest shim possible, or the thinnest, or shoot for exactly the middle? thanks...

I'll be tackling the task at the end of the yr [Dec]. Could u post or PM me a list of parts and tools i need to get for the job ? If u have a digi-cam, pix would be greatly appreciated

i ain't got no digital camera... but to help a fellow gixxer brotha' out, i can write stuff down. i used to be in research so it comes naturally to me... of course, keep me in mind when you get stuck or have a question.

thanks ratman. i think i will shoot for mid-spec and try to keep them all as close together as possible.

I just finished checking my valve clearances...
Everything looked GREAT!
It was really easy.

Items that I lacked.
Long phillips screw driver to get the carbs off.
Gasket sealer
tappit...feeler guage...

Be cautious lots of stuff to easily over torque.

You should not need gasket maker for this job... GASKET MAKER IS BAD.

get a haynes manual this has a graph to tell you the exact size shims to get
