The UK has passed a law that makes black, colored, or tinted visors illegal.

You don't need me to tell you how stupid this law is. The only good reason I can think of for the government is that faces cannot be photographed with all the front facing speed cameras all over the place if the rider has a dark visor on.

Please sign this petition and send to as many riders as possible.

Can we make this a sticky?

Here in cali any window tint in front of the driver is illegal. I had a Dr's excuse that stated I had Photophobia. That is a sondition where your eyes don't dialate right and bright light gives you headaches.

It got me off about half the time.

Those laws blow goats.

It kinda makes you wonder then why wearing sunglasses in a car isn't illegal.

The foarard facing speed cameras idea is a non starter as bikes dont have front numberplates anyway othello.

I dont use tinted visors but ill sign the petition anyway. Not that it will do fuck all good.

It doesn't help when you have situations where the government sends a team of researchers to a regular bike spot at sunset and counts the number of riders using tinted visors and then finds out how many of those were carrying a clear visor to use once the sun had gone down.

Apparently 40% were planning to ride home in the dark with their tinted visors

Of course, the Government doesn't realise that legislating for the idiots in our society isn't the way to go...

The forward facing number plate isn't too far off mate... If they don't do the plate they'll probably put a transponder on the bike. Either way, we're heading for front facing recognition and the reaosn, I believe, that they have banned tinted visors is because they want to take a snap of our ugly mugs and could give a toss about safety.

Othello, here in melbourne, Aust, we were very close to front plates (still may get them), a transponder device etc, but they still cant work out a system for front plates due to the wide variety of bike types, ie sticker plate for fairing bikes where it would go on the screen (for that i would ride with no fairing on the street which is still legal, just to spite our government).. so far this has not come through.. we got stung a extra $50 rego fee for safety issues, from mainly riders been in serious accidents, caused by a cars fault. our speed cameras are just as bad as Englands now, ussually on high traffic density roads that are rather safe and never had accidents (there reason for them in the 1st place).. i really hope this government does not get voted in for a 3rd term.. also our road compliance has a %10 + or - for speedo errors so speed cameras where set to that, now at any speed limit there is only a 3km tolerance in anything from a 40km zone to a 110km zone..

as each year goes by it gets harder and harder

The law has been around for a very long time, and many people have tried to change it.

I understand that you are allowed a 'mild tint' and there are other specific that you can have like a photochromatic one that lightens at night.

I think i got 20+ ticktes for dark visors in the UK in a ten year period, each time it was the same routine.

Its like 'race cans' and small number plates, cool as hell, but not worth the hassle, if they see you have a dark visor, or hear your can, or (fail to) see your small plate, they pull you, and it gives them an opportunity to give you a ticket for all the other things that you have that are wrong.....

If I ride in the UK, I stick to my Oakleys, and do not give anyone a reason to pull me over any more.

It's looking better for you guys I hope.
Thanks.. over 1000 signatures were added in one day. It is possible to keep this going. Just email the link to every biker you know and encourage them to send it to every biker they now. Also, what really helped, was people posting the link on other boards that they're members of.
